Nothing new. Just haven't repaired the last one, i.e. the smallish dent on front offside wing caused in a supermarket car park by some berk, which I'm certain I've catalogued on here before, and is an embuggerance when trying to decide what to do with the car in the next month as PCP end approaches.

Nothing flashy outside our house Al. Currently on the drive is the old Merc, a not so old Jeep, an old Aygo and his GF’s old I10. Still plenty of room for a 124 Spider though… More so when he moves out at the end of the month… 🤔

Side note, it really stuck me this time how many more brown cars are on the road in France. The people evidently have more exquisite taste than I had previously given them credit for. I also saw a white, unrestored, base model Renault 20 driving through the village. One of my all-time favourite designs. Lots of middle aged cars knocking about as usual, they just don't rust there I suppose, but that 20 was the cherry on the cake of my inveterate old heap spotting. The one disappointment is that the French seem to finally have embraced the faux x 4 SUV trend. I do like the look of the current Megane estate though, I wonder what the rear legroom is like...would prefer a Talisman of course, but I'm out of luck there. Also the current Espace (not sold in UK) is far smaller and lower looking than the previous models. Looks more like a Grand Grand Scenic. I suppose that's what it is really, just with the Espace badge added. Again not available in the UK, which is a shame. It's looking more "SUV only" in the UK as time passes. Groan.

Yes - the Europeans get a far bigger range of models and shapes. I really like the current Megane EV shape; Looks very smart and modern without dating. If only they did it with a bigger battery...

They also pay a lot more for them. Our consumer finance market lets us buy BMWs for Focus money, which doesn’t leave much room for the French and Italian makers. So we get their small cars and the few bigger ones they think might win buyers on price against German SUVs. But family saloons and estates mostly need not apply.

I can direct you to a Renault 5 Monaco in a riverside village between your house and mine. That’s brown. And yes, the 20 was a lovely thing. My first stay in France was at the home of a Renault dealer, whom my mum’s school penfriend had married. He ferried us around on day trips in a 20TX with a fabulous blue velour interior. I may have been channelling that memory when I chose the interior for my iX. That family, incidentally, living in Lorraine before the universality of English, all learned German but very little English. Father was weirdly proud of his one phrase of colloquial English, which he was sure would delight me. It was ‘Rabbit of water pipe’. 43 years on, I still have no idea.

I love a Renault 5, particularly a Monaco, which is most likely an automatic. What a delightful little car that must be. I do occasionally pass between our towns, I'll keep an eye out. If you ever see a For Sale sign on it, seriously, let me know.
