In case anyone wants to know from a few pages back (you almost certainly don't but I may be the only one on here with Audis)...
The actual numbers (25 to 60) on Audis defy any apparent logic - but the increments are to do with BHP rather than CC. Thus 25 is 95 bhp, 30 is 115 bhp, 35 150 bhp, 40 190 bhp and so on.
Not a lot of people know that.

Well there's no logic in the increments - is it like the Fibonacci series? Being pedantic it's not anything to do with brake horse power... it's PS. My VW Group 1.4TSI engine is 150PS or 148bph.

Here's the list I found, the reason for it being explained "As alternative drive technologies become increasingly relevant, engine displacement as a performance attribute is becoming less important to our customers," explained Dr. Dietmar Voggenreiter, Board of Management Member for Sales and Marketing at AUDI AG. Sales and Marketing again, the numbering confusion explains why it came from the S&M department. Anyhoo, the numbers:
30 = 109-128 hp (81-96 kW) 35 = 147-160 hp (110-120 kW) 40 = 167-201 hp (125-150 kW) 45 = 226-248 hp (169-185 kW) 50 = 281-308 hp (210-230 kW) 55 = 328-368 hp (245-275 kW) 60 = 429-455 hp (320-340 kW) 70 = 536+ hp (400+ kW)

Obviously he ran away from the Vogons coming to destroy Earth, as his logic is flawed. Too many gaps in the series. What happens when a powertrain produces 135bhp or 260bhp? Those slip between the grades. 32.5 or 47.5?

The engineer who didn't follow the brief is sent to Seat, VW or Skoda to consider the errors of their ways or, the range gets recalibrated to fit the technical ability of the day.

I'd love Bentley to badge one of theirs as "SSS" (Sufficient Sir, Sufficient ) 😉

If you want to see it played out try looking for a Volvo D3 S/V60 between 2012 and 2015. The D3 went from 163PS to 136PS (made more confusing because it looks like a simple typo), by detuning the existing engine and introducing the D4 badge by leaving the engine management as was. Then the four cylinder engine was introduced with a D2 at 120PS, the D3 was increased to 150PS and D4 to 182PS.
See. Clear as mud.
