To answer Humph’s question from a couple of weeks ago, yes we can.

Interesting.
There is talk of me being "unfurloughed" shortly so it may not be an issue for much longer, however, depending on what that actually means, I may still not need the car.

Interesting. There is talk of me being "unfurloughed" shortly....... ...I suspect your current brush with "retirement" has left you somewhat underwhelmed at the prospect. Here's to the "unfurloughing" going the right way.

If your emplyer is like me, he will have calculated (for someone earning more than £30,000pa) that the ability of that person to pull in work/sales in excess of £xxx per week justifies bringing back from furlough. Two people in my firm are being brought back next week and both are overjoyed (seriously) even though they were being paid at their full rate..

Makes sense. Anyone with half a brain will know that paid holiday can’t be indefinite, and they’d much rather relinquish the ‘holiday’ part than the ‘paid’ part. Employers also know that the people who will help them rebuild are the ones who already know the business and the clients, and that recruiting is expensive and slow. They’ll need the right people there when the doors reopen.

Funnily enough the crisis has done us a favour. I have been looking for an experienced and qualified building surveyor for some time to head up a department that needs to grow. One guy was made redundant just before the crisis and has not been able to find work. Having done two zoom interviews and discussed a paackage with the recruitment consultant, we are ready to have a final chat about money, working conditions etc. The idea is to employ him from 1st July (or earlier by agreement) and pay him a retainer for the period between now and when he starts.
There is no way I could have found someone like him without the crisis. It is only through realising I had a great opportunity to strike now whilst others were sitting in their gardens that I hope to have solved a problem I have had for a few years.

If one good thing comes out of all this, it'll be the realisation that remote working is much more practicable than people thought. If you have a well-run business in the first place, as Espada clearly does, you can get a lot done even when stuck abroad.
If there are a few more thoughts on the lines of 'Is this meeting really necessary?' a lot of businesses will be better off. Just as an example, the Companies Act 2006 made AGMs optional for private companies (>99% of Uk companies): I've never heard of any detrimental effects from that. The majority of companies are owner-managed anyway.

The German Labour Minister is looking to introduce the 'right to work from home' law which he aims to present in the autumn. 25% of German workforce have been working from home for the last month+. It's not something which can be enforced, you will have the choice of when you work from home if your job allows it.
I look forward to it. I could attend my twice weekly face2face meetings in the office, the rest of the time work from home saving 9,000kms/year.

I've got to go to my office so I can get that free electricity into the Leaf, so that I can drive to the office for free.

You clearly spend too much time filling in boxes on spreadsheets. 😉
