Which then brings us to that thorny old question of torque. Who has ever even seen a Torque? What do they look like anyway? Me. Every time I get on a bike. Made myself look up the maths on this and a bike is possibly the easiest example to visualize and makes a nice round-number example. Suppose I weigh 100kg (I’m not quite as light as Vić.) I know my legs can lift that much as I can raise myself from a squat without holding on to anything. So we can suppose each leg can exert half the force necessary to raise that mass — or about 50 x 9.8 = 490N
Now, my pedals are on cranks 175mm long, so the torque at the pedals is 490 x 0.175 = 85.75Nm
If I turn the pedals at a reasonably comfortable 90rpm, that’s 3pi radians per second. So my power at the pedals is 85.75 x 3pi = 808W
That’s a bit more than one PS, which is about 735W (75 kg m/s) and is not an output I could sustain for very long. But if shows that you can make more power by increasing torque (which means pushing harder, assuming the crank length is constant) or by spinning faster — using a lower gear to make this possible.

...I know everyone's proving it's a slow/wet/whatever day today, but that takes the biscuit for mindless diversion....

I know WFH can lead to odd musings, but at least this guy was a bit more imaginative:

(Sorry, I can't get it to accept a tweet inline, so you'll have to remove the quotes, but I do like this! (and it is safe viewing))

I'm still shredding stuff. Back to tax year 2005/6 now. Yeah I know, but I've been busy since then.

Listening to US radio the new Neesaan (sic) Sentra has zero gravity seats. I had to look those up. It helps explain the laid back attitude to driving I've seen over there.

Sadly, the US pronunciation of Nissan is much closer to the Japanese than the British pronunciation.

They're rubbish at pronouncing marathon, python and mirror though. Tomatoes too come to think.
