The development of eFuels and how they can be blended with existing fuels while production ramps up may well mean you drive your current car longer than you think.
Edit: it would be great if eFuel removed the need for Adblue.

We are fortunate to live in a densely populated island where the EV charging infrastructure can be and is being put in place with reasonable alacrity and over the majority of the land mass; even in the bits which are a bit off the beaten track. So unless there are huge issues with electrical generation and/or distribution in the UK, EVs are very much on their way and here to stay.
For those than don't want to participate, the market has been so large for so long that it should be easily possible to keep a 2020 ICE car motoring in 2040. So for Humph, I might be tempted to buy a newer E-class simply to ensure long term supply or parts but he may never need to drive an EV. However for other countries with smaller populations and larger land areas, the EV may never take off until there is say easily 500 miles of range and charging stations at least as numerous and available as petrol stations are now.

The battery development in the EQXX which has the same capacity in a volume 50% of the size and 30% lighter should mean a smaller car than this could package a battery in that has the range you mention now. The cost will come down quickly too.

Anyway, so I was having a bit of a tidy up in the garage yesterday afternoon and alighted upon my summer tyres for the Merc which will go back on in April or so. The fronts are fine with 6mm of tread but the back ones are down to 4mm. A bit of life left in them I suppose, but of course I started browsing to see how much the replacements will be when the time comes. All I can really add is to advise anyone who doesn’t actually need or want any Continental 265/35/18Y XLs not to look. It’ll make you sick. 😬

…and that’s before the effect of oil prices feeds through to tyre material costs. And some of us need 285x19s — although I’m hoping mine will last longer now.

Found 2 Toyo tyres for SWMBO’s Outlander last month, 155 quid each which I thought was ok. Since Found an old receipt which says I paid the same price for a pair of Maxxis (budget?) tyres for it back in November 2017. So no complaints from me.
Nice new rubber smell permeating my garage - car hasn’t moved for 3 weeks since I drove the mile home from the tyre fitters 😂

Trivial dilemma alert.
So, it’s mid April and I should be thinking of getting my winter tyres off. No big deal really.
But, thing is, the back ones are at a stage of wear where I’d probably not bother to put them back on again in November. Still at about 4mm but that’s getting low for winters. Fronts are fine at about 6mm.
My summer tyres are coincidentally similarly worn and at my mileage, those back ones won’t last more than a couple of months.
Then, there’s the mountain biking factor. The winter tyres are just brilliant at enabling my RWD car to cope with muddy rutted car parks etc. no matter what time of year.
So, I’m agonising about whether just to leave the winters on and buy some new rears when needed, or to put the summer tyres on knowing that I’ll need new back summer ones soon and some new back winters in November.
Hard isn’t it?
Well, not super hard, but hard-ish.

4x new all seasons. Sell your "good" front tyres of both types on FleaBay. The Michelin Cross Climates (Leaf) and Uniroyal SomeAllSeasonThingsOrOther (Corolla) I'm currently running are 3MPSF rated, so should deal with your needs as well as your winter tyres. Civic tyres are looking a bit tired, not quite in terms of tread but there's a bit of perishing and I think they're original, so 6 years old now (Bridgestone summers). So I'm thinking of getting the changed for new all seasons before we head away to the continent in the summer.

Not very. Use the tyres you need when you need them. But 🐻 in mind that tyres are likely to be more expensive in November than now as raw material costs escalate. I’d put on and use the summer tyres now, replace the ones that wear out, then do the same with this winter tyres in the, erm, winter. I can’t endorse Vić’s eBay suggestion. Selling safety kit part-worn is ethically dubious, to put it mildly. Same applies to child seats, bike helmets and similar; you need to know exactly where it’s been.

Yeah, I thought of that Al, but it’s fouled by no one making all season tyres in both the sizes I need. It’d mean getting one make for the back and one for the front. Which is just wrong of course, even if it’s legal, I’d know, and it would just bother me.

That's weird. I didn't appreciate you had differing wheel sizes, and I'm suprised to hear that there aren't any all-seasons to cover your requirement. How odd. Surely there's huge demand in Germany at least for all-season tyres for a Merc E class? Why on earth isn't anyone supplying them?

I’ve wondered that. Mine are the same (complicated further by a 19-inch diameter) so, much as I might like to use all-seasons, there aren’t any.
Perhaps the reasoning is that if I can afford a car this grand, a couple of thousand extra for full winter tyres and wheels shouldn’t be a concern. And if I lived in a land that had proper winters, it wouldn’t be. As it is, I have the all-seasoned, FWD Aygo if it ever gets that bad.
