…hopefully they'll wear down before they fall apart (grrrr Bridgestone)… Had a look and i3S tyres come only from Bridgestone; two models, one of which is the OE. Nearly £500 a pair, which puts them about level with the 285s on the back of the CLS. But I should only need one pair in our time with the car.

Last time I checked the tyres on the I5 (not that long ago as the LHS rear drops a couple of psi over a month), they appeared to be barely worn at 22,000 miles. There is some really annoying fallacies spread about EVs by mainstream 'journalists'. But I have lost much of my faith in such people after a new to the Daily Telegraph writer did a long drive in an EV6 and blamed the car for all his woes, when in reality, all he had to do was spend five minutes planning his journey.
I don't think that I will need to change the tyres due to wear by the time I hand the car back next year.

Good. As expected, my tyre supplier is claiming that the cracking is normal at this age, so God alone knows what the supposed "lifetime warranty" is supposed to be covering.

I'm not a fan of Bridgestone tyres. My bike came from the factory with them. The rear tyre lasted 1,500 miles including the running in period of 1,000 miles where I did not exceed 7,000rpm as per the manual.
You could contact Trading Standards if they still exist. I know caravan tyres can crack from standing around but a car tyre after 24 months and relatively low mileage the carcass should last longer than the tread you'd hope.

Well the Cross Climates I've ordered are roughly double the price I paid for these rubbish Bridgestones, so hopefully that'll mean they deliver twice the life and twice value...

That is more than very disappointing. Not enough UV protection in the filer mix.

Would you call that wear and tear or a manufacturing defect? I, of course, call it the latter, but can't prove it, and so the retailer sticks fingers in ears and it's wear and tear.
Sigh.

At the recent MOT for the Mazda6 slight cracking on the rears was spotted but nothing to be concerned over. It's a 2020 registered car but I'm sure it sat around for a while before first registration (it does not have the SOS/telematics needed for later cars). I'll have to keep an eye on the rears and probably swap the fronts back there and get new fronts in the future. Fronts have only done 11k miles since last July.
I'd say there is something wrong with the tyre manufacture too for Al's car. If it was just UV light it would be the side-wall with cracks. Most of the tread is not in the sunlight directly most of the time.

Very true. Cracking after two years is outrageous.

Whilst driving home from Manchester on the M56 earlier, a car in the middle lane ahead of us suddenly pulled across to lane 1. And slowed right down. As I passed it I could see the front tyre on the driver side had deflated and I thought they were going to limp to the next junction but... no this is a smart motorway so they had to limp to the refuge area.... Had there been a hard shoulder they could have stopped straight away. I hope they got sorted and remained safe.
