Ignoring all the non-football news around the 2022 FIFA World Cup, talking with mates, it's the tournament I'm least looking forward to in my adult life.
Just can't get enthused about it. I'll watch the England games but can't say I'm overly bothered about the whole occasion.
In the past I've been known to go AWOL during the tournament and enjoyed a good few outdoor refreshment events, not happening this time.

Yes I feel the same. Wrong time of year, wrong location for a tournament, just wrong wrong wrong. I didn't even mind Scotland being eliminated in the play offs by Ukraine, I thought they could do with something to cheer if they wanted to, but then along came the Welsh and ruined it.
I'll probably go down the pub for the odd game with some friends, but meh. We'll probably watch the Serbia games at home, so I suppose we've got 2 teams in it chez nous. Now where do I get an "Anyone But Wales" t-shirt? Although there are 2 Fulham lads in the Wales squad, along with 2 in the Yanks' squad, one in Portugal's team and of course the Mighty Mitrovic. I just hope they all come back unscathed.

Ditto Al. Too much controversy about this tournament. And the fact that it’s not being held in summer totally changes the environment for you Europeans*.
I’ve just read that the Qataris want to renege on beer sales in the stadia now?
But hey, the FIFA officials lined their pockets eh?
*Doesn’t matter where major global sporting events are held, the best games are always at 2 or 4am NZ-time 💤

I saw yesterday that the England squad ran a training session with a large group of migrant workers, and has bought them a job lot of A category tickets for their opening match.
Impressed. Well done lads, and all in the face of FIFA screaming "just look at the football". You now have my full support on the pitch.

Such a huge mistake to hold the World Cup in Qatar. It was obvious that things would go wrong in terms of local customs versus international expectations. And it has ruined English/European football this season with too many injured players.
However I can see a certain drop in productivity on Monday afternoon in my office.

It's OK, if you're in corporate hospitality you can still drink alcohol inside the stadium. 👍
My inner psychic is getting the name Russell and I can see brown paper bags, lots of them.
Think I'd be a bit concerned as an LGBTQ+ fan being escorted to seats in the higher tiers of a stadium. If they can change their mind about alcohol 48hrs before the tournament what might they change their mind about during a game ?

Shock of the tournament the Saudi result. Excellent! Just seen the highlights and the second Saudi goal was superb.
Lots of political issues about this World Cup but then I have huge issues with FIFA and corruption. But when do you get the chance to see so many international teams?
Not easy and hopefully a lesson for FIFA and the IOC for the future.

The problem with all this is no one will host a World Cup ever again.
Next up is North America in 2026. Will USA executions / gun laws be under the microscope, Mexico's drugs cartels, Canada's maple syrup exports (tongue in cheek) or PMs black face be covered in the same way ?
I'm not saying look the other way, what I am saying if it's good enough to scrutinise one host then all should be exposed to the same scrutiny and global comment which means no one will be eligible.
Edit: The issue is with FIFA and the self appointed global apologist at the head of the organisation bad mouthing Europe on a global stage. I hope all European FAs grow a pair and boycott 2026 WC qualification. It will take an action like that to put the child clown and FIFA back in their place.
Wonder what's going to happen to all those warehouses full of Budweiser ? Confiscated as contraband in an alcohol free country no doubt, ho ho ho.
I did see some of the second half of Arg Vs KSA. KSA gave as good as they got from what I saw, overpowered Argentina in some phases of play. Messi looked slow when he had to run, still got the control and touch but 35 years against someone 10+ years younger is never going to be an even race.
