Just looked online, it's Toulon to Majorca, with Corsica ferries, not far from Marseille. 85€ appears to be per person. Still a bargain compared with the 2,500€ I was quoted by DFDS Amsterdam to Newcastle for July this year.

Sheesh - that's a lot! I appreciate the laws of supply and demand but ferries cost similar amounts to run, so 12 hours from Toulon to Mallorca will cost similar sums as across the North Sea. So why the enormous mark up? And if so large why are other operators not getting into the action?

Let me guess. Some kind of state ownership or regulation for a critical infrastructure service makes the Majorca ferry that much cheaper.

But France to Spain? I could understand Barcelona to Mallorca being a 'critical infrastructure service' but not Toulon to Mallorca. Whatever, it is a bargain..

What's the difference? It's all EU. They don't think of eachother as foreign countries. Remember that feeling? Grand, wasn't it.

Think I’d rather drive to Barcelona than Toulon on holiday…
150 quid each way for a car and 3 passengers for the 3.5 hour crossing between the North & South Islands in NZ.

Remove the cap and watch the UK soar. Like America, fantastic place if you have money, hell if you don't.

And Hey, let’s hike interest rates and kick people while they are down…. Anyway, thread drift!
Drought in much of Europe, and across the Midwest of the US I gather? Food prices not coming down anytime soon.

I feel a Scottish accent coming on... Doomed, We're all Doomed....
Seriously though, interest rates being so low are the reason for inflation. Too much easy and cheap credit, with people who have cash in savings being penalised for being careful with their money whilst others with little money go and spend what they don't really have. We are all closer to pension age than we like to think, and our pensions rely upon reasonable interest rates for the cash held in reserve when not invested in the markets.
Anyway - back to the thread - various YouTube vidoes from Arkansas and Kansas apear to show reasonable quantities of rain, but generally in short bursts rather than Mancunian day-long soft rain... but there is nowhere like Manchester!

You should have seen the rain on Corfu on October 7th last year! It was the heaviest I have seen for the longest period. I've seen heavy rain in Greece but it does not usually last that long. That day it rained like that for many hours.

About £130 for the four hour crossing of the Minch from Oban to Castlebay (Barra) for car + 3. Subsidised though so as to be equivalent to driving.

Equivalent to driving ? How long would the snorkel have to be on a LR Defender for that trip ?

What do they mean by "equivalent to driving", because I can't see that distance costing £130 in fuel even at today's prices, were there a road. I did that crossing once for a holiday about 22 years ago (I think it was 2000, can't be certain). Took our Ford Escort Mk6 1.4LX (white). I have long since forgotten what it cost. I never knew that stretch of water was called The Minch. Sounds a bit like La Manche, wonder if there's any linguistic relation. There are a few French words in colloquial Scots thanks to the Auld Alliance, so maybe it crept in that way.
