I'm now wondering why Honda left S/S off this particular variant of the car. Doesn't seem to make sense. May well have knocked it down a VED group. It's a £200 a year group as it is. Fair bit less than the E of course.

You don't need me to tell you, but be clinical about it this afternoon, try the car, decide if you like it, but also ask yourself the question as to whether it's worth £X a month for Y years to you. If it is, then great, go for it.
We go through the same agony over "her" car from time to time, it's probably worth hee haw now ( 2008 1.6 petrol Qq with 80,000 in poverty spec ) and we should probably replace it. But...it has never given any trouble, she likes it and it just seems daft to buy something new just because we can.
Your needs are more pressing of course.

Aye. In your shoes I'd keep the Quashy kwai until a large bill presents itself I suppose.

Here's a thing to ponder. I've no idea what your monthly payments would end up at, but assuming £200 a month, on 5000 miles a year, that works out at 48p a mile in finance alone.
Just to cheer you up of course!

£195 a month, 8,000 miles a year.
Cars aren't free. If there's a way of having something so reliable and up-to-date for less, of a similar class, I'd be interested to hear it.
It's a fair bit less than "over £500" in any case. That gives me the clenched teeth.

...from a local approved dealer. That isn't white. Well, that's very "inclusive” of you, if not downright magnanimous. Can't say the dealer's colour would worry me.

£195 a month at 8000 miles a year at 40 mph = £11.70 per hour of use in finance alone. Never mind all the other costs...
My £500 a month over 36,000 a year at 40 mph = £6.66 per hour of use in bik tax. Free tyres, servicing, insurance, VED, business fuel etc.
Just saying ! ( not very usefully I'll grant, but y'know, cats can be skinned in all manner of ways )
Hope the test drive goes well !

Get it up to 200k miles a year and you'll be close to breaking even.

Oh yeah. Forgot to mention. One thing I absolutely LOVED in the Civic yesterday was the well placed, correctly sized and angled left foot rest. Perfection. How come so many cars get this wrong? I'm tempted to buy it for that alone. Really important piece of ergonomics and driver comfort. Must check the accelerator isn't floor hinged...
Found it odd that the car had the ECON driving mode enabled, which dulls performance. Sales bod didn't think to check, or comment on trying switching it off. Important thing to point out, I'd say.

Really, genuinely, hope you love it. It does seem to be ideal for you on the face of it.

Does the S/S keep the engine off whilst it's on HOLD? Mine does — when it bothers to stop it at all, which is about 40 percent of the time even when the engine is fully warm. No option to combine engine stopped with brake lights off, though — short of switching off with the key.
