Oh Yes - Big Sam. Park the bus and hope to draw. Not exactly exciting football is it. NUFC needs years of investment to compete even mid-table and Financial Fair Play means they have to do it slowly. Probably better off being relegated and starting again - like Glasgow Rangers.

I misread this as ‘…disappointing new manager…’ Not sure why the BBC thinks I might care about it anyway.

On the other hand, Chelski drawing, the Scousers losing and Citeh beating United made my weekend pretty good.

Sadly there are no Blackburn Rovers fans on here to tease.

Message the other night on our office WhatsApp group from one colleague to another (a Newcastle fan to a Blackburn fan...)
"Paul, my internet is down, can you please check the Blackburn score for me. Ta."
Cue laughter heard all round north Manchester....

South Yorkshire teams have been a sticking point for Sunderland the last couple of weeks. Looks like Joelinton has been teaching the Sunderland forwards all he knows about clinical finishing.

Net zero, it's a good thing in Glasgow apparently.

Steve Bruce to come out of retirement and take over as interim manager at Manchester United and the Glazer's to sell up to an unnamed sports wear company director looking to invest a recent windfall. What are the odds ?

Odds - City are more likely to be relegated than United appointing Bruce as Manager and the Glazers selling up.

I know, nevertheless, it would be hilarious if it did happen - Bruce to Carrington.

Womens World Cup qualifier: England win 20-0. What is the point of such a mismatched game? Makes the entire tournament look silly. Plenty of other high-scoring thrashings amongst other teams too. Devalues women’s soccer.

There are few professional womens football teams that such mismatches are inevitable. But if you put all the lower quality teams in their own tournament how would they ever improve?

The balance is again not there. Women are everywhere on TV in football now, the men's game, the women's game. BBC2 shows women's league and internationals because commercialism has taken over the men's game. Try watching a live men's Premier league game on non-subscription TV, you can't. The same will happen to the women's game once it gets up to a standard where people want to watch it. It could be worse though, you could be paying a subscription fee for MLS. I watched a game a few weeks back, Philadelphia v NY Red Bulls. The ref had back breasts and a muffin top hanging over his shorts. He couldn't keep up with play and was running all over the place rather than a diagonal and working with the linesmen/assistants, no idea. Probably enjoyed a Phili beef and cheese sandwich with a bucket of cola at half-time.

Devalues women’s soccer. Nobody complains when New Zealand beat USA 100-0 in the Rugby World Cup or says it devalues that competiton. Lesser nations need exposure to the best teams - years ago the England men's football team used to regularly beat teams like Turkey 9-0 - subsequently Turkey have made a World Cup semi final. See also former no-hopers like Iceland (knocked England out of the Euro Finals in 2016.... ) - and even Malta's World Cup qualification hopes were still alive half way through qualifying this year.
