Remind me why people watch this game? I should have been at the theatre but wasn’t fit, so Boy2 took my ticket. But people told me this (England v Scotland for anyone visiting from the future) was a great occasion and would be exciting to watch.
It wasn’t. Whenever one team got the ball back, they’d sportingly stop and wait for all the other team’s players to get back in position before they tried to take it anywhere. By which time, of course, there was nowhere left to take it. So they kicked it around for a bit till someone made a mistake, the other team got it back — and repeat.
I thought international football had ‘creatives’ and ‘playmakers’, people who can see an opportunity and set it in motion with one stroke of the boot. Nobody last night did anything like that. It was dreadful.

That's the problem with the media in the UK. They believe if they hype something up it will be good and the consumers of such hype believe the hype.
Every Championship, World Cup, it's coming home.
Watch other teams, they have a team mentality, a team spirit, regardless of who they play for week in week out, for that tournament they are a team. I never get that impression from an England team.
Points on the board for Scotland, see what happens with the last game.

Funnily, I do remember some of that from the England team of 2018. I got the impression that they played for each other and were pleasantly surprised by how good they turned out to be. This time, their most attack-minded player was the goalkeeper.
This time, I suppose, the expectations are higher and maybe that made them over-cautious. But I’m not excusing Scotland from blame. They too seemed inept and short of ambition. ‘One for the purists’, possibly. Or just a very poor spectacle.

I must be wired up badly. I've never been all that interested in watching other people doing things. I quite like doing things myself, but I've never really found the time to just watch stuff. Compounded of course by not ever giving two hoots who wins. Don't get me wrong, watching someone doing something really well is interesting for a short while, but dedicating any measureable time, effort or expenditure to observation rather than participation has never really felt like something I'd want to do.

I got bored watching the first half so went out and watered the garden, checked on the fruit trees, potatoes and peas. I would love to still be able to runaround and chase a football, injury stopped that so watching it is the next best thing for some of us.
The second half didn't get much better, long periods of possession for Scotland without ever threatening to make Pickford do much sent me back in to the garden to put covers on things.
How the game has been run by FIFA and UEFA is a whole other thing, I would not directly pay to attend one of their events.

Two games I have enjoyed Holland v Ukraine and France v Germany.
The first because it really could have gone either way, the second France were quite dominant Germany started to lose discipline which is unusual.

There you go Dubya. There are some good games and some poor ones. The trick is working out which is going to be which beforehand. The good ones, sadly, usually don't invlove England or Scotland. You have described Scotland's current problems very well in your earlier posts. I managed to enjoy the Eng v Sco game, but that was because I was at Wembley and enjoyed a good night out with an old (Welsh) friend for the first time in a long time. and too many beers.

Outrageous from Denmark last night. Brilliant. Delighted for them, but feel sorry for Finland who are most likely out now. England guaranteed to progress, Scotland go through if they win tonight now. The Scotland game will be the one to watch tonight as there's no real jeopardy in the England game as both side have qualified already. It's winner takes all in the Scotalnd game, a draw is not enough for either side. The Welsh Walesists are already through of course, but will now play....Denmark in the first knock out round. Tough.
It's getting good, this tournament. Just hoping that Scotland don't leave the party just yet. I can't say I'm confident, just hopeful. Croatia have got a couple of top class players who can win a game with a moment of brilliance, Scotland just lack that sort of quality I'm afraid. Will need a bit of luck tonight.

My prediction (15 mins before kick-off!): Scotland will lose 0-1 and England will draw 1-1 💤)!

Sorry, Humph and Vić but it was probably a bit much to hope to progress by beating the World Cup finalists. Quite impressive to hear the sound in the stadium, though — and I don’t mean Flower of Scotland, which remains an offence against music. But I did like the support for the team, right to the final whistle; can’t help contrasting it with what an England team might have got in the same situation. It made the chauvinistic inanities of the Scottish bloke in the ITV commentary team more bearable.
Bad luck then, Scotland. But thanks for having better fans than England.

The England fans in the stadium cheered when Scotland conceded goals. I don't like that.

The media always find the Miwlwawl element of the England fans. We're Ingurland, no wun lyks us, we dahn't care. Spoils it for the rest really.
