I was astonished that Chiellini only got a yellow and not a red when he grabbed Saka's shirt and almost garrotted him.. Overall, the England team came out, played well but then got outplayed by Italy and a little blame should go to Southgate for not making substitutions earlier. But the better team won, although they will not be the same team in Qatar (World Cup 2022) as their two oldest players will probably be out to grass by then.
My experiences of watching live football fall into two categories - Very pleasant and "who are these 'numpties'?" - and that is nothing to do with the players.
All bar one of my visits to the Etihad have been to see ManCity play. I sit in the family stand and it is very civilised - probably a bit like watching Rugby. The one time I watched England play there, it was totally different. A rather large group of young men who drank too much, disrupted everyone around them and were not there to watch football but to expand their egos at the expense of those around them. No suprise that Wembley was the same.
My frequent visits to Wembley to see ManCity play have generally been civilised but occasionally you get sat near groups of middle aged men who are not real football supporters but have got tickets through contacts, are away from their wives and act like the aforesaid youth. It is rather disappointing to those of us who enjoy the spectacle of a decent game.
I confess to booing the UEFA anthem at the Etihad for Champions League games due to their obvious bias against the club in terms of finances (I am not debating that here) but even that has become a joke as UEFA are so up their own backsides. But the loutishness is a concern.

Interesting graphic. Only four of the 11 starting players have purely English parents or grandparents. No surprise but you wonder about the gobshites - how many of them have 'foreign' antecedents?

Ha ha ha....
Apart from murdering a critic of the regime are the Saudis any worse than many of the owners of Premier League clubs...😬.
The sad thing is that to be a successful PL club now you need billions. Financial Fair Play will disappear to ensure Barcelona and Real Madrid stay in the European elite. But what about the great English teams of the past, those who were famous pre- and just post war for quality sides. They are all now in the lower divisions.
There are now 13 teams aiming for the top four slots! It took Man City four seasons from purchase to our first title and were a far better team then in 2008 than The Toon are now. It will be almost a decade before they challenge properly. The investment needed in training facilities, academies etc is huge and that is what Liverpool, ManCity, ManU and Chelsea have.

Newcastle are in a relegation battle this season. The team that has both surprised and entertained me this season is Brentford. They have been a breath of fresh air to PL. I hope they can continue and have a better second season than the blunts of Sheffield.
Edit: My concern is PIF turns out to be a bunch of asset strippers. St. James' Park luxury flats and Newcastle v Harrogate Town on the town moor in a few years.

I hope we all enjoyed the thrilling Scotland v Israel match this weekend.
Watch the Jocks now throw it all away against the Faroes or Moldova now....but if they don't, and win those 2 games, it's a guaranteed World Cup play off place. Of course they'll end up playing someone superior like the Netherlands and go down in a blaze of glory...but you never know and it's the hope which keeps us coming back.
Brentford? Never heard of them.

Brentford are doing what Brighton have done and sometimes still do. It is a breath of fresh air and far better than teams like Southampton who park the bus when playing against the bigger teams and bore us all silly.
The ManCity - Liverpool game last week was probably best drawn game I have ever watched and more exciting than most of the victorious games I have seen City play.
Didn't get to watch the Scotland/Israel game but it sounds like it was also entertaining - and that is the point isn't it? Why watch a dull 0-0 drawn?

Many years ago, my Father espoused that neither side should get any points for a 0-0 draw. That change might at least give us a gung-ho nothing to lose finish to otherwise dull matches.
The other obvious change I would suggest is to widen the goal posts another foot or so. Might lead to some more speculative shots raining in!

Jimmy Hill suggested the 3 points for a win idea and it is a great idea. The problem is that no points for a 0-0 draw gives weaker teams no incentive to play against stronger teams - they might as well not turn up. You could go more complicated and say 1 point for 0-0 and 2 points for X-X where X = any number greater than 0. But we are talking thick footballers here....
The rules keep changing often enough anyway...

At my first live football game since February 2020. Man City v Club Brugge in Champions League.
I forgot how stressful it is watching live football and how exciting.

If the excitement gets too much try watching Newcastle !!!
Newcastle United were at COP26 this week and announced they were ahead of schedule to reach net zero since signing Joelinton.

Boom tish.
I think we are playing The Toon on 23rd December at St James's Park. Might see if I can get tickets. One oil funded undemocratic nation versus a murderous oil funded undemocratic nation. Should be fun.
At least # "We've got Guardiola" - Sung to the tune of Glad all Over.

I've read Steve Bruce is available if Newcastle can't find a manager. Just not big Sam, please, not big Sam...
