That’s an oddly handsome car, I’ve always thought. Maybe it’s my early-80s personal sweet spot again, but the 300 somehow made the leap in mid-life from ugly-duckling slowcoach 340 to poised and stylish 360. Perhaps this was Volvo finishing the job of bringing it in-house, without the Daf parts. I’ve never driven one. Won’t be buying that one, but I do like it. As you probably recall I've owned 2 360s, a met green 3 door GLS with beige velour (Y-reg), and a dark met Grey GLEi saloon with black leather (D-reg). Always coveted a GLT, but the first phase 360 GLS is a thing of joy. I wish I'd had the space/wherewithall to keep one as a toy. Lovely cars to drive, but RWD of course so care had to be exercised. Only ever lost one once... Smashingly comfortable and solid for a small(ish) car. There's a lady round the corner from me who still uses one daily, a D-reg example. If I spot one like this in a year's/18 month's time, as our first 17th birthday approaches amongst the offspring, I'll want to buy it. Most likely purchase though remains a Mk1 or 2 1.4 petrol Ford Focus. Or a FIAT Punto.

Love the white Amazon in the ad below. LHD but hey, when I retire to my cottage in the South of France 🤔

I'll chuck you a cold one over the fence, coz I'm gonna be down there too. With a Renault 25, or similar.

You can park it next to my Vel Satis. And we can go 50:50 on the eggs. 🐔

Good choice of cars both of you and with Humph as a neighbour he can keep you right with all things Renault maintenance, he has some experience of how to keep them going. You'll see him zipping about in his Renault offshoot Duster.

I did 120,000 miles in a Safrane - the one in between those two. Very comfortable and very reliable, as were the Espace before it and the Laguna V6 after it. But these were all pre-2000: Humph, I think your Espace-from-hell must have been post-2000, when for some reason Renault's quality took a nose-dive. I think it may have recovered somewhat, but I haven't tried one since.
But driving to the S of France in SWMBO's A3 convertible sounds tempting, though maybe not this year.

I've been watching too many YouTube videos of car restoration. I have decided that there is only one car I truly want which is a combination of madness and sensibility.
Fiat X1/9.
Almost everything else is either way too expensive to buy/run, was too humdrum when new or offers nothing different to a nice 8 1/2 year old E350CDi which has been lovingly cared for since November 2015.

I was looking at these earlier today, found one that had a Mk2 Uno turbo engine dropped in. I'd started off the search looking at Porsche 914. 20-30k€ for one of these, 5-13k€ for the FIAT.

914s are going up in price. Apparently it is now cheaper to buy a 912... Not that I have checked.

My accursed Espace was a 2002 /51 plate, last of the old model before they introduced the sort of square sided ones. Upsets me to even think about it.

I'm looking at new cars at on the company car scheme at the moment. One I might try out is the XC40 as a PHEV. Can't decide if I like it though. I might even contemplate a Mercedes Benz albeit an A Class saloon.... but it would end up being a poverty spec AMG Line which would be crying out for the larger media and digital dials display I think. Okay not poverty spec I know. But an A250e can drive over 40 miles officially on electric power so is taxed at 6% for BIK.

Both nice cars, you'd think anyway Rob. If they'd be big enough for your needs?

Anyway, talking of left field choices, I watched an episode of Wheeler Dealers last night. One of the new American ones with Ant Anstead. The featured car was an Opel GT. I'd quite forgotten about those. What a pretty little coupe. cringeworthy pic below...

This one, other than being a manual, has Al written all over it: shorturl.at/buAEH (Link to Autoscout24.de)
Lancia build with Ferrari engine - what could possibly go wrong as they say. From memory these cars were LHD only, perfect for retirement in France.
