Saw a few of those driving up through France the other week. Good looking cars. I can see why you'd want one.

Yeah, I suppose it does look a bit German, especially in that colour.

Wheels are too big, mind. Nasty scrapes are inevitable. For some of us.

Depends really, if you've only done that once ( ONCE for Christ's sake! ) in 42 years and nigh on 2 million freaking miles, what are the chances eh, none, that's what they are, zero, zilch, not going to happen is it?
Jeez...
🙄

Hmm. Skoda nose, Mercedes middle and a BMW tail. Interior looks like a cross between BMW 5 (good) and Honda Civic (anything but.) Might tempt me in for a look, though.

Sadly, like most recent French cars, it'll probably make far more sense second hand due to depreciation. Pity really, because it does seem like a very good effort.

The French drive cars from their own country in much greater proportion than the British. I suspect that's because they are happier with the basic versions without all the electronic bits that go wrong on French cars. French engines and gearboxes have a good reputation. The electronic unreliability leads to the higher depreciation: as you say, a used one makes more sense financially, but would you actually buy one?
Humph, I wonder if a 508 would stand up to your 40k a year as well as a Mercedes clearly does. You'd also have to get used to the tiny steering wheel and the usual French insistence on having everything controlled by touchscreen, including (I think dangerously) the heating and AC.

I doubt it'd take the miles so well.
Incidentally, for no reason at all, I checked the other day whether "Betsy" was still running. ( my infamous old Mondeo TDCi estate ) and it is, still taxed and MOTd and was showing close to 300,000 miles at its last MOT in February 2018. Great car that. Hope someone is looking after it.

...and while I was chugging up and down the pool tonight, it occurred to me that whoever bought that Mondeo ( assuming it has remained with only one further owner ) has had 8/9 years and 100,000 miles from a car that cost them £1400. Of course I've no idea what they've had to spend on keeping it running, so it might not be quite such a good deal, but if there haven't been any major problems, they've done ok from it you'd think.

Trigger did okay with his broom. Betsy is probably still okay but might be more Bert now.
