I’m really good at PG tips and Nescafé.

I pretty much lost my sense of taste and smell at fourteen when I had glandular fever. A broken nose at seventeen pretty much finished off what sense of smell I had.
I can taste sweet, sour, bitter, smokey, salty that's about it. Always had a preference for savoury over sweet. Funnily enough my son and I can sense when someone has tonsillitis, they smell creamy and milky. Sounds odd but as we both suffer chronic tonsillitis we have each others back when it comes to detecting carriers. Flip side is I probably couldn't tell the difference between a baked bean and mild coffee bean in hot water if the sweet sauce was removed.

Tea is best in the north with nice soft water. Anywhere with hard water makes it taste weird unless you use Yorkshire Tea blended for hard water.
And tea or coffee on a plane are just awful. Warsteiner is a far superior alternative on Lufthansa and best of all it's free.

Agreed on both counts, Esp. A Brita filter is pretty much essential here to deal with the hardness and the chlorine - and that's after the softening machine we have to keep the water from wrecking the appliances.

My father had a built in water softener in Israel which together with Yorkshire tea made the drink paletable. We use a Brita when we are there but we have a Nespresso machine there as well which is in frequent use, as long as the right coffee pods are selected... but there hangs another discussion.

A property I looked at in Greece last year had a filter on the main water intake and then something else else to zap/clean it at the kitchen tap. But I read that removing all minerals was also bad. I'd just drink bottled water there I think including what went into the kettle. Getting Yorkshire tea leaves is another problem.

I like Earl Grey with lots of milk… that tends to disturb drinkers of Yorkshire tea 😂

Just waiting for someone to suggest peppermint tea with hot chocolate. Only drink it in the evenings, after 8. 🤣

I remember saying, years ago and before the referendum, probably in another place, that all the "not racist" Brexiteers who simply wanted to stop foreigners taking British jobs and depressing wages were going to be furious when we left the EU, and Romanian and Polish nurses and carers left the country and ended up being replaced with nurses and carers from the Phillipines and Uganda. Well I'm going to have to admit I was wrong. It's nurses from the Phillipines and India which we'll be getting. www.walesonline.co.uk/news/uk-news/urgent-plan-hire-thousands-nurses-24796986

Better than no nurses at all…
Truth is we’ll take any desperate souls who will accept minimum wages and shitty hours :-(
And to think that 10-15 years ago we sneered at places like Dubai with their exploited Pakistani construction workers and Filipina restaurant staff and hotel cleaners…
