I don't generally do this Brexit discussion thing online, as things like breathing get in the way, but I did enjoy this, from the New York Times today: ...what the Brexiteers want is to return Britain to a utopia they have devised by splicing a few rose-tinted memories of the 1950s together with an understanding of imperial history derived largely from images on vintage biscuit tins... Since I re-registered my UK car in Germany the indicators have stopped working.
Things have gotten so much worse since swapping my driving licence, I no longer know how to drive a roundabout. Just yesterday I had a septic tank in Mustang park on my front bumper blocking the entrance to the "circle" then lecture me on the errors of my way how I should give way to traffic on the circle which is going no where...It was lost on him how he was blocking traffic. No wonder roundabouts do not work in Germany or America.
Thick as mince springs to mind.

Driving through Italy and Slovenia last week really brought home the reality of EU trade - on the motorways about half of the cars and trucks aren't locally registered, but come from other EU states. Spotted a fair few trucks from Ukraine and private blingy 4x4s from Russia too as well as Turkish trucks (customs union member - another thing we're throwing away).
All utterly depressing on returning to the UK and firing up the news, and we're still grinding on to our own destruction, to the cheers of those seemingly unable to comprehend life outside Little Piddle-on-the-Marsh. Or Stoke.
Pah.

Exactly. The EU is not perfect, but compared to life after Brexit it is a dream. Brexit is a pipe dream. We have thrown the baby out with the bathwater.

The problem is not do much EU / Not EU - at the end of the day that is merely a name. We'll end up with pretty much the same thing in the end, we just won't call ourselves members.
The issue is the fact that economic and political decisions are driven by the Daily Mail et al, and that's driven by a bunch of people who understand little of the issues involved but are convinced that the EU is dictating their lives and that Johnny Foreigner is responsible for whatever it is that they haven't got.
And being non-members of the EU won't stop them thinking that I fear.

Assuming you are not blocked from The Spectator, have a read of this. Really long, so you'll need to care quite a bit to bother. But interesting. Its written by Dominic Cummings, presumably you know that he was the Campaign Director of Vote Leave blogs.spectator.co.uk/2017/01/dominic-cummings-brexit-referendum-won/#In case you either can't be arsed to read something this long, or are blocked from the article, then this is one paragraph that the Campaign Director of Vote Leave had to say... "Pundits and MPs kept saying ‘why isn’t Leave arguing about the economy and living standards’. They did not realise that for millions of people, £350m/NHS was about the economy and living standards – that’s why it was so effective. It was clearly the most effective argument not only with the crucial swing fifth but with almost every demographic. Even with UKIP voters it was level-pegging with immigration. Would we have won without immigration? No. Would we have won without £350m/NHS? All our research and the close result strongly suggests No. Would we have won by spending our time talking about trade and the Single Market? No way."

"Over-optimistic ministers manipulate the Brexit debate" Reads like a crossword clue but it's a tough one. "I be the extra debt"? Not convinced. Housing benefit reference, perhaps: "Three-bed tax bite"?
