He's hotwired the laptop battery and the phone battery into the car to try to get up Priest Hill [steep hill near him]. Hence no communication.

I plugged the car in and it burnt the house down.
But seriously, I've been laid low with a cocktail of viral and bacterial infections for a week, haven't been able to see much and haven't remotely felt like looking at a computer screen. Better now.
Haven't used the car much all last week and have commuted to work for the first time today. All is well. Last week, we just used it to shuttle the children to and from school, and the urban only driving seems to have stunted the predicted range to 90 miles every morning (contrary to my previous musings - I suppose the laws of physics apply to me too). It started on 90 miles today, and I arrived at work, 23 miles away, via school, showing 67 miles range. So it's pretty much spot on. Will get home with ease, and it should need about a 60% charge overnight.
Am enjoying the silent progress, and overall the car is very pleasant. Rides well but I fear the handling is slightly compromised by ECO tyres. I just get a slight sense it's going to let go in the wet on corners. But it's not a car for racing.
Running the aircon/heating seems to knock 5 miles off the predicted range, so I'm just switching on the demist for a few seconds as necessary and switching off again. Probably not necessary but I'm being cautious for the time being regarding range.
Sounds system is good, seats are very comfy, and nobody's stopped me to ask for an extra pint and bottle of orange juice yet.
Home charger goes in this Wednesday, work chargers go in next week.
Should have done this years ago. Will be getting a 30kwh or one of the new 40kwh in 3 years time. All other electric cars, E Golf, BMW i3 etc seem overpriced in comparison. That badge thing again.
Tried a wave at some fellow Leafists the other day, no response. I are sad. Will persevere.
And it's RED.

Oh yeah, and I've got blue teeth for calling and music streaming for the first time. Which is nice.
Passed a crashed car in a bush at the Wellington roundabout on the A33 this morning - a silver Mazda 6 estate with its arse hanging out of the undergrowth, Police Aware stickers on it. Thought it was mine for a second, but it wasn't. Airbags all deployed in the cabin. Joyrider from a south Reading estate I shouldn't wonder. Brine trizers moment I expect.

Ah, now the cognoscenti wave at all EV's, so you'd best start to gen up on the front facing profile of a Zoe over a Clio, or an i3 over a frog.
Glad it's working out for you, so far. Addictive things, they are.

Do wish I could convince the missus to move to Scotland. Getting quite tired of little England and its ever deteriorating attitudes to everything progress-related, and its dog-in-a-manger attitude to everything even suspected to being related to money which may benefit somebody other than one's self.

Crikey, everyone is making noise about the 2040 target for ending ICE sales. I hadn't picked up (according to your link) that Scotland is aiming for 2032!
Looks good that. Might have to move.

Addictive things, they are. Ah, that's Ok, I recognise them all already. I shall give it a go, and if nobody waves back I shall know you are pulling my leg. I expect the poorest response form Tesla drivers.

You have to Malham wave at PHEVs of course.

OK, I'm at it too. Trying to concoct a deal on a CLS that doesn't leave the enhanced trade-in value of the E on the table has got me thinking that the time for an EV may be now.
Let me explain: VW, BMW or Nissan will all give me more than the E is worth. So will Mercedes, but not against the car I actually want from them. Meanwhile, trading in the E would remove MrsB1's preferred transport, although I expect she'll get used to a CLS. What she won't do is drive the 325, and as I hardly use it now, and will presumably do so less if I have the option of a CLS, it may be time to say tchüss.
So I'm thinking: trade in the 325 against the CLS, which is a cash-plus-car deal. Meanwhile, use the temporarily enhanced value of the E and some cheap PCP money against something new and either ultra-low or zero-emission (locally-speaking, of course.) Means a bit of short-term upheaval, and two big estates on the drive for a few weeks, but gets us back to having a long-distance and/or full-load car, plus something wieldy and economical for local use.
Top common-sense candidate is a Golf, which will hold three of us (four if I'm not driving) is the least showy and has the best nominal range. Best value might be the Leaf; most fun the i3, although I'm concerned about the space in the back of that. VW also overvalues the E by the most. And since EVs aren't great value-holders (bit like big diesels in that respect) it has to make sense not to pay too much.
Vić will call me a badge snob, but I am drawn to the i3, partly for design and partly for performance; 6.9s 0-60 sounds a whole lot more entertaining than the Golf's 10.4s. But 125 miles against 180? That might be the difference between many of our day trips being doable on one charge and not.
Thoughts?

i3 with the range extender is a good choice. I'd probably have gone for one if I could stretch to one, but you can't find them for the money I paid for the Leaf. I'd've gone for a 30kwh Leaf also, but again couldn't find a deal to match the monthlies I got, which is what it was all about for me - assisting my monthly cashflow.
IMHO the Leaf has more room (in the cabin and the boot) than a Golf.
You won't often be using the full acceleration of whatever you buy due to range anxiety, so I wouldn't worry too much about 0-60. It is tempting to do it though and even in my lowly Leaf I scared the shit out of my 70-yr old mother over the weekend.
I'm finding great pleasure in timing my engagement of the regenerative braking to slow the car without the brakes. But I will have to give the Merc an Italian tune-up soon, keep it lubricated and all that.
Oh, and you're a badge snob.

Oh and BTW, WDB: if you fancy a squizz at the Leaf and a go at the wheel, drop me a line.

So hang on, you're not using the BMW much, presumably because of a combination of your new commute suiting public transport, and Mrs B doesn't like it and prefers the E Class?
An electric Golf or similar would therefore, ( maybe ) not get all that much use either?
Unless, it became the "main" car of course. But, you wouldn't need a new or new-ish CLS all that much then would you?
