I don't think it's all about what WDB needs, Humph.

I get that, but I can see him buying two, not inexpensive cars here, and not actually using one of them. Would sort of drive a coach and horses through any savings to be gained from having an EV wouldn't it?

Maybe. My pretty-much sole motivation for buying an EV was cashflow savings. WDB's is not. It's a rear car purchase which is actually going to save the purchaser any money, mine is one example which proves the rule, we all know the expression 'man-maths', after all. Whatever he does, I hope he enjoys it.
I'd rather a straight E350 to a CLS350 any day of the week, but whatever (milk)floats your boat. And of course, a money no-object EV would have me in a Tesla. If WDB could fernagle one of those into his calculations, I'd be jolly impressed and envious.

Funnily enough, had a mail shot this morning from Fuel Included (have a look if you haven't. They do "10000 miles of electricity cashback") . Anyway, they want £300 a month for a Passat GTE. As a new Zoe would be near enough £270, that's quite interesting. Bigger, bit more upmarket, does 30 miles EV, then kicks in the engine for the odd longer trips could then lose the Volvo in the deal as well and run just one car again.
The i3 is of course a four seater, but the Rex version is fraffully expensive. Hadn't thought about the Golf possibilities myself. Perhaps I should.
PS the Malham wave was a Bryson term - a mild lift of the finger from the wheel in acknowledgement. Sorry, I tend to forget not the whole world adores Bryson's stuff.

I prefer the "proper" estate too, but my needs are quite specific when it comes to loadspace and that must bias my preference. The CLS is very pretty, but in truth, even if the loadspace wasn't an issue, I'd not pay a premium for one over an E estate. The CLS is just the tiniest bit "slip on shoes" don't you think? Ever so slightly lounge lizardy?

I didn't know I was a "Malham waver" but it turns out I am. Or when feeling more lethargic, I'm just a bit of a nodder. Only truly self sacrificial courtesy gains a full wave or in extremis, a thumbs up from me.

The CLS is just the tiniest bit "slip on shoes" don't you think? Ever so slightly lounge lizardy? 🤔 A little bit, Humph, yes. But in a discreet and tasteful way, I think, which makes it a worthy successor to the 325 - as well as being qualified to replace the E by virtue of having more rear kneeroom (than my E or a new one) and better seats-up load volume than anything bar another E. It has frameless windows. I really like frameless windows. The Golf would get more use than the 325, because it would become MrsB1's usual drive. It would be perfect for her teaching nights, when she has no distance to cover but a lot of kit to carry. And the CLS would cover long distances, family trips and the occasional need to take one's best popsie to the seaside. 😎

Do you think he's one of those people who point and wink at people they recognise? Always a sure sign that. 😅

Never thought of myself as a winker. Others, of course, may disagree.

I used to go to a nightclub in Chalfont St Peter that was called Winkers. A very long time ago. Allegedly, it was once owned by a guy who had in turn once held the rank of Wing Commander.
As you were chaps, as you were...back to electric cars eh?
