No, it's that bloke who just has a natural, effortless, sense of style. It can't be taught, it's sort of innate. 😎

If the bloke can dig a bit deeper, there's a pumped up rufty tufty four wheel drive E class estate coming out in 2017. I know another bloke who is going to seriously covet one when it does... Yeah, The bloke says he is aware of it That, the V90XC and the XF Sportbrake all appearing during 2017 means he would be wise to delay till autumn next year. He says budget was just a guide easily adjusted heavily upwards. I mean its not as tho he doesn't have a decent enough wagon to hoon about in, having two more driven wheels and one more cylinder than the other bloke, the one with the inane (he did says inane?) dress sense. Edit www.carscoops.com/2016/10/battle-of-cross-estates-new-mercedes-e.htmlIts got to be one of those two init, Sorry Jag and BMW.

It's going to be one of those two of you want to settle for a two litre, four cylinder, though I believe Mercedes will have a 350 model in future launching with a 220. What doesn't sit right with me and the new 90s is the chunk of space allocated to the engine bay to house 4 cylinders and two litres an no prospect of anything bigger. Also, current experience says don't buy a new Volvo model in the first year of production unless they're paying you to be a beta tester. If you want more cylinders BMW and Jaguar could be where you spend your money.

I would imagine that a self-respecting bloke with a healthy budget will expect at least six cylinders - that knocks out any Volvo.

True, and until the the better weather returns, it's not as though he'll especially "need" a sunroof, although automatically range adjusting LED headlights might have been handy enough during the winter months, but I expect he'll manage, if he takes it easy in the dark. It's not as though his current car is powerful enough to get him into any real bother despite having all those cylinders.

Oh that old thing, thought they all did that nowadays? Maybe not of course. There could be some you know, "budget" models without that I suppose. But as long as he's happy thinking it's something special. Don't tell him will you, it might disappoint him to find out that it's not that unusual...

Not even a premium brand.... I wonder if his headlights can be set so that the main beams turn off when other cars approach? Wonderful when driving dark country roads without fiddling with the light stalk.

Late to the party, but here's my 2p anyway
I agree with Otto - cheaper cars changed regularly would be my choice (and what I'm doing on a much smaller budget.
When I started reading the brief, my thoughts immediately turned to the XF Sportbrake. I had a quick look on autotrader, hard to find one over £30k! Do they have the 'R' as a Sportbrake?
If i was forced to spend that on a single car, it would be a CLS 63 Estate. Your cage may not fit though?
The new V90 is lovely, but engine choice would turn me away.

I agree re V90: if you're going to spend north of £35k you need at least 6 cylinders.
