Nooooooooo! Driving a Panamera makes it seem like all BMW drivers are paragons of rectitude and boringness. There is simply no good reason by drive, let alone buy one.
Face it Nog, its a 6-cyl E-class Merc. Nothing else has the class or poise (or smooooooothness).

If we're still on the purely hypothetical, then what about the purely hysterical? This is automatic, loads of toys, luxury and even has a dog sized boot...😜 Dog size boot? only if you have a piddly little pooch, HOWEVER THIS is not out of the realms of the impossible www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201610108621099

I've just had a good look at the Panamera advert. External pics only. Albanian registration (I think) and £40,000! Sounds like scam to me.
Cayenne. Hmmm the newer models no longer look like drug dealer cars. Still think all Porsches should have two doors and no more than 2 (+ 2 very small) seats. For me its either a 1973 911 or the last of the 928 S4s.

A friend has had both a Panamera and a Cayenne, I got a chance to drive both of them. The Panamera was indeed something special, the Cayenne was nice, very nice indeed but I wouldn't say special.

Difficult. The advice I'd give now is quite different to what I would have said 5 years ago. Then I would have said the Landrover. They are just great, individual, world of their own, really, really fun. Sometimes a bit difficult to buy a good one, because there's lemons out there, but just a great car. And, with a inheritance, its a bit like "free" money, there isn't the personal blood, sweat and tears involved. But between an S Class and a Phaeton, depreciation ruined it all for me. I could not possibly spend £40k on a car without knowing what every month was costing me. So these days I would take that £40k and decide that for each of the next 5 years I was going to spend up to £8k on something I really fancied driving, sell it for what I could at the end of the year, and hang it if it didn't last more than a year. In that world, for up to £8k for a 12 month vehicle, there's a lot of Autotrader fun to have.... Exhibit A www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201609097599422?year-to=2000&sort=price-asc&year-from=1960&advertising-location=at_cars&onesearchad=Used&radius=1500&make=ALFA%20ROMEO&postcode=rg354ss&page=3

Take your time testing them all then see if there a Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio wagon in 2018 and smash the budget. What else are you going to do with the money? Leave it to your son...

That Cayenne has a brown steering wheel. Now, I like brown leather on a lot of things: shoes, belts, wallets, gimp masks, iPad covers, to name four such things that I have, use and like. But a brown steering wheel is a violation of the laws of nature, an offence against all that's good, true and fluffy. Don't do it.

Just a word of advice. If you are putting your search results up on a forum, make sure your home postcode is not shown, otherwise we know where you live.....
Although RG35 4SS is a bit far from Chile ...

I don't think RG35 4SS is a Santiago postcode.
That after-the-fact edit facility makes fools of us all. 🍌

If I were the said bloke with £40k, I think I'd want at least 6 cylinders, and would also want to buy new (to avoid the risk of landing up with something that had either been caned by test-drivers or flogged after six months by someone who'd hated it).
I don't remember any of the blokes on here complaining that a Lancer estate was too small: so going for a C-class estate, a 3-series Touring or an A4 Avant would mean that £40k would buy a nice upmarket version with some extras.
