I see. MrsB1 likes the idea of Samsung’s ‘The Frame’ screens, and it looks like we could have a 50in one for a shade over £1000. … Might have to investigate further. I did, and now I’ve gone and bought one — for rather less than £1000. It arrives on Friday, just after Boy2’s return from York; I could have got it sooner but there wasn’t much point, as MrsB1 is the world’s worst person to have on the other end of anything large or heavy, and I wouldn’t fancy trying to hoist it on to the wall by myself. It’s — gasp — a 55. But it requires no more height and only 17cm more width than the 12-year-old Sony 40, and will sit much closer to the wall, with most of the processing and all but one cable in a control box I can secrete round the corner. So it should be more watchable and less noticeable at the same time — but still too subtle for Reading. 😛

What is it with some folk and preposterously large TVs ? 🤔

Yeah, maybe it’s wasted on Richard Osman’s House of Games. But it’s a biggish room and I do like a bit of cinema too. And I’m actually hoping that the rest of the time it’ll feel like less TV in the room, not more.
Oh, and my mistake: it’s not a 55, only a 50. Or, as people round here say, a Caversham Portable. 😛

Well, Saturday was Let’s Get It Up day. Took some work as the Samsung has its own hanging brackets, so the wall-bar VESA mount for the old set had to come down first, but it gave the trusty SDS drill an excuse for its annual outing to make eight new holes for the new one. The brackets are solid on the wall, but I was a little concerned that the hanging plates are held to the TV by just two stubby screws and a pair of magnetic clamps. The plates have to be slightly free to pivot to allow for perfect levelling once the thing is on the wall.
But it’s up and I’m really pleased with the effect on the room. It really does feel like we’ve got some space back. And we’ve had some fun already with the Samsung Art collection it can display. Oddly, I’ve failed to persuade MrsB1 that we should set it to show The Raft of the Medusa but there are other options. Lots of them.

I’m sure that MrsB1 is just pleased that you got it up without damaging anything 😂

The ones we’re looking at are just to the blue side of grey. Danish. Very tasteful. 🤓

Well, I suppose, indeed trust, that you have resisted the temptation to put fairy lights on the outside of your house at least? Please give us a small crumb of hope? 😬

Not sure what your problem is here, Humph. It’s just a TV, a bit wider but otherwise more discreet than the one that was there before. As will the windows be if we ever get that far. We leave the lurid decorations to the neighbours — and mercifully few of them too.
Anyway, it’s done now, hopefully for at least another 12 years.

Our previous next door neighbour had brown window frames and front door - didn't look quite right. A few weeks after the new owners moved in they had the window frames. door frame, front door and wooden gates all spray painted to be a dark/blueish grey. Look better for sure. And a lot cheaper than replacing them
