Facing a long haul flight, with memories of useless in ear phones on the last one, I invested in a pair of Bose Quiet Comfort 25 headphones in the duty free at Gatwick These www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/bose-noise-cancelling-900-commercial.htmlWow! Fan bloody tatsic, perfect for aircraft use, for the inflight system, your own music player, or just turn on the noise cancelling with no music, and doze in silence

I've been tempted by these for a while. In fact knowing I was going to get some vouchers from work I popped to John Lewis to take a closer look. They were great. The QC35's were even more comfortable (And expensive) but read reports they were not so good when using Bluetooth.
I can't justify spending the money. I work from home a lot and it's quiet anyway.... They are very good.
I did try out some other (cheaper ones) once and took them back. They were not noise cancelling in the sense that the Bose ones are.
And your link to PC World/Currys does not find QC25's. Maybe discontinued with them.... But why is there an iPhone/iPod version and an Android version? Different prices on Amazon.

Noise cancelling? Hmmm, pondering on domestic use now...

Good quality headphones are superb, I'd love some. Especially those which look great, I could totally justify them and would get loads of use out of them except....
there's a problem....
I am singularly incapable of carrying headphones and/or sunglasses when I am not using them. I lose, crush, snap, forget, bend, squash or snap them.
Its a shame, but it is my curse. Good headphones and expensive sunglasses remain out of my reach.

I've been using them for years now. Absolutely indespensable if you also need to work in Data Centres.

Reminds me I had to work for a couple of weeks in a datacenter and it was terrible - all day basically. I'd have bought these then for sure if I'd realised the difference they'd make.

>> And a wooly jumper,
Yes it was very cold! Coats, scarves and gloves needed. Only had to work in there because we needed to be onsite (at the DC) but no desk space. Office space in a datacenter is always going to be limited.
First time I used a thumb print for ID for entry (this was over 10 years ago).... now we use it all the time on phones.

This is topical for me too. I've resisted active noise cancelling in favour of snug-fitting in-ears. I started with a pair of Shure SE-something's, which are great for noise isolation but a bit of a faff to wear. Then I got some Beyerdynamic MMX 102s, which are almost as isolating but much more comfortable and sound great - or did until I left them on a train somewhere. Probably. Can't find them, anyway.
My House of Marley gym in-ears look cool with their braided cables and wooden earpieces, but the bass is all about quantity and no finesse at all. So I'm making do with them on air trips but could do with something better again.
Three flights coming up in the next week. The DTX version of the Beyers (without the useless phone mic of the MMX) is now only £39 so I should probably just buy another pair. That will probably make the first pair turn up too.

Just tried a pair of the QC25 at T5. Gosh, they are good, aren't they? A little plasticky compared with the likes of B&W or even AKG (tried the N60 too, although without noise cancelling) but comfortable on my big head and with a very satisfying rich sound (Abbado conducting Bruckner.) £219 seems a lot but I reckon I'd get my money's worth in terms of use.
Incidentally, as I wait for departure, why don't people get the clue in the term 'hand luggage'? Must be half a dozen who've clonked me on the shoulder or upper arm with bags swinging from their shoulders. Apes!

Yep. And the QC35 seemed even more comfortable (and expensive of course) to me. But I've seen some negative reviews too.
If I was working in an office or commuting I'd get the QC25s or even QC35s pronto.

Weird thing about headphones is the importance of fit. Reviewers love AKG's Y50 and K451, but I couldn't even make them sit right against my ears. And KEF's swanky new range would barely even stay on my head.
But the Bose seemed genuinely comfortable: grippy but not squeezy, so that I could forget about them and just listen, which must be the point. But what's a hifi snob to do? Bose is a brand I'm supposed to scoff at before buying something worthy by Grado or Beyerdynamic. Isn't Bose for - well, people who shop at airports?

They were the first, and last probably, buy (other than booze, fags or perfume) I have ever made at an Airport DF shop. They were bought because they fulfilled, admirably, an immediate need.
So whats a cloven hoofed ruminant brand snob to do? Buy them and keep its horns out of sight in the herd.
