Appalling, but hardly surprising.
Look at many [most?] of their supporters? They're not really likely to be expecting a high standard from their representatives, are they.

I saw the headline from the BBC app and tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. Then I found the full report on the Guardian site and realized I needn't have bothered. Just when we thought there was nothing more they could do to embarrass the nation they claim to be proud of. What an appalling collection of appalling people!
And now I see Farage had announced he's leader again - or never actually left because James's appointment was never confirmed.

These people worry me. Their attitudes seem to chime with a disturbingly large portion of the population. I wasn't naive enough to believe that there were not at least some walking among us with such appalling views, but I still reel at the realisation that there are, apparently, so many of them. Shame on them frankly, shame on them.

The politicians are not the problem. In truth, neither is the media. The problem are the people who vote for one and read the other.
And there are a frightening number of quite unpleasant people walking among us. But I guess there always have been.
However the HUGE issue is that the views of these people are in danger of becoming socially acceptable. Already there are people seeing racism as some kind of a badge of honour. That, added to the fact that the person speaking and the person listening are typically pretty equally thick, and they are coming out with ridiculous views of international economics and financial policy which are never challenged.
Look at some of the things said about tariffs, exchange rates, subsidies etc. etc. Really, it is quite obvious that understanding is beyond the wit of the most vocal.
I quite honestly believe that the UK is in danger of getting itself into real trouble, and when in the future people look back, it will be these years seen as the beginning.

And Irony heaps upon Irony. It happened in Strasbourg, and Woolfe is being treated free of charge under reciprocal EU agreements...............

I fear, no actually I believe, you are correct Otto. There is a stench in the air redolent of Germany in the 1930s. I know that's the lowest form of Internet statement but on this occasion I'm genuinely afraid that's the course our country is setting its cap at.

I think so, and I fear the country will take itself to a crisis. However, its money will desert it before it can harm anybody else. The UK is doing nothing other than digging itself an almighty hole.
However, how can you explain this to the planks? Firstly it is largely beyond their abilities to understand, and second an insular country where nobody else ever tries [wants] to go is actually what they want. They want what so many people fear.
They seem not to understand the multi-cultural *world* that we live in and think they can shut themselves off in their little fantasy. They cannot differentiate beyond me good / foreign bad. They are not even able to define "foreign".
75 years from now the lessons will be forgotten and similarly stupid people will try again.

That's my worry too. I've been over to the Ukip page on Facebook today, and there some real horrors there. Here's one:
Why don't all people on here slagging off UKIP and calling every one racist go vote for Labour the party that loves muslims and immigrants . You will think again when (not if ) one of your family gets raped or you get caught up in a suicide bomb attack ..THINK BEFORE YOU GOB OFF !!!
Clearly intellect isn't a strong point but that's not what worries me. The stupid and easily led are being fed this stuff by people who know it isn't true but whose corrupting purpose it serves.

Although not a UKIP supporter, being what I am, I have some sympathy for this view. Hard Left Labour supporters seem to take great pleasure in cosying up to all sort of extremists, who would normally be killing the lefties off. Thus those lefties who bang on about Gaza etc don't realise that 'if' we end up in the Islamic Republic of Great Britain, the first people up against the wall with a bullet in their head will be the those parts of society that radical Moslems hate; e.g. gays, free thinkers, atheists etc. It is rather like turkeys voting for Christmas. But the hatred of the far left is so strong so as to block out sensible thought about where their future lies. No wonder the radical Moslems love Londonistan, they were welcomed with open arms by Ken Livingstone and Corbyn has kept the invitation open. If it wasn't so dreadful to contemplate, I would love to see what would happen if we did get an Islamic government run by people who make Iran look secular.
Clearly there are several screws loose in UKIP, especially in the MEP section, but amongst the 17 Million who voted for Brexit, there will be some with more than half a brain.

I don't think this Mrs Ukip's view was as finely nuanced as that - although even yours seems too close for comfort to the distasteful game of equating any Muslim presence with an imminent Taliban takeover.
The sooner the world grows out of all its religions, the better, of course. But we can't bash Ukip with that, so it's no fun today.
