It’s my Auckland round-robin day again tomorrow. SWMBO is going to accompany me this week, so I will be limited to 90km/h and no reckless overtaking. The payoff for squeezing half of the fun out of the day will probably be a gain of 2-3 mpg 😂 How long is the drive from where you are to Auckland? Easy to do there and back in a day? Presumably not many dual carriageway high speed routes?

Got an 800 mile round trip to SE Ingurrland this weekend. Will take the lesser oil burner, it should manage the trip on one tank and clear the filters. Tunnel or ferry this time?

This trip is a sprint not a marathon so tunnel. Don't really do ferry for the channel unless the tunnel is stupid expensive. 162€ is not worth looking at ferries for.
Ferry from Amsterdam to Newcastle next month.
Funny story, all that don't buy diamond cut alloys, do a as i say not as i do. Got a set of brand new, fresh from the factory, OEM wheels for my car (diamond cut) for a fraction of the new price. Mrs bpg is coming along for the ride, a night away, so the savings might not be that great after the event 😁
Edit: Those wheels will be polished, waxed, sealed, waxed a bit more, sealed some more over winter before they see any rubber or tarmac. Mrs bpg will not be parking next to high kerbs in London when these wheels go on.

Which car is being treated to new wheels? Volvo. I'm going to spend some money on the suspension, brake servo and get the exhaust upgraded to Euro VI. Planning to take it down to southern Italy next summer. I think it's worth keeping as it doesn't have half the electronics of new cars. Road tax doesn't go up every year here as a stick to beat you with. Even with the above work the remaining 50,000€ will buy a lot of diesel with inflated polluter pays tax.

Looked out of the window today, Vić? We’re not in summer any more. Cheapest I can see for a return 28th Sep - 12th Oct, just a random few dates as I was curious, is £242. Still a lot more than BPG's price by about £100. Is it cheaper booking from mainland Europe?

I have, not very seriously so far, explored buying a new replacement set of wheels. There are some fairly convincing aftermarket options available at reasonably sensible prices.

Have a look on the MB owner's forum in the thread for your model. There may be someone selling a set. I don't know if MB owner's do that maybe worth a look.
Edit: Al, my trip is a two day max return, that could also be why it's cheaper than a two week break type return.

Replacement alloys for W212 Mercs are numerous and some very good without being garish or 'in yer face'. There are some which are almost copies of the OEM. Worthwhile having a look. Some of the independent tyre places near me also stock and supply.

Aye, I haven’t looked recently, but the best selection and supplier with the best reviews was somewhere near you. Middleton maybe. I should look it up again.
