Just catching up, been on hols in France, kind of near Collioure as previously mentioned. Hot as hell and thankfully the mosquitos were too tired to bother us much. Mountain biking in 32C was "interesting". Did the trip both times in one hit, 1032 miles each way. Car performed perfectly other than needing AdBlue in the middle of the night on the return trip and the filler being under the boot floor and all the luggage ๐

Nothing that useful unfortunately. Freaking polar bears. Who needs them eh?

...yeah.....they can be difficult to find in the middle of the night as well (but at least if there's one in the vicinity, it stands out, being white(ish) )

My 14 year old E performed OK on our drive through France and back. However, it did give me the low power/limp mode treatment twice. Which means I have to pull over and reboot to get full power back. Last time I checked for error codes with a reader there weren't any. And it gives no error on the dash. Car has now passed the 131,000 mile mark. Next major bill, it's getting binned. If I can afford to replace it.

Question for those of you with the rear air suspension....
My car now has effectively brand new rear suspension; new air springs (rubber bellows) and new shocks.
I recall before I had the problem that the car would remain at its regular height all the time and would not settle overnight. The first time I got the "Please Wait - Vehicle Riswing" warning was in April on return from holiday. I had noticed once before that the car rose on first being started but I assume that this was the beginning of the problem.
However over the weekend, I noticed that the car had settled and on both Sunday morning and this morning the car was lower than usual and clearly jacked itself up (although there was no warning). Is this normal - what does your car do if left overnight or for a few days?
The car is going back in tomorrow to be checked over..

Mine stays at standard drive height overnight. In fact the car can be left for weeks and it doesn't move. My airsprings have all been replaced in recent years, as you probably recall. It does not "settle" any lower. I only have rear airsprings though, so that may differ in behaviour from full air suspension.

Thanks
I only have rear airsprings as well, so I think I have a problem. The guy at the garage did sound concerned when I rang him this morning..

Depends really, if I don't change the load, it doesn't move, but if I take everything out of the boot it'll sort of squat down a bit overnight and reset itself to where it wants to be next time the engine is started.

Your front end is lighter though, as it is bereft of several cylinders. I expect that's what confuses the rear end.

Almost certainly. Fundamentally flawed in that respect I shouldn't wonder. Seems to work ok though despite all that and gets pretty good mpg while doing so. I'd so hate to be using too much fuel on a trip like that... ๐

Yep, this is what mine does too โ and the E did before it. The CLS does settle sooner and more noticeably (even audibly), sometimes while weโre unloading after a full-load run. Perhaps thatโs the effect of the extra pair of cylinders.

Garage has checked the suspension all over. Replaced some fittings where the air pipes attach to joints, bellows etc but there was nothing obviously wrong and a soapy water test revealed no air leaks. Maybe the car will always be this way from now?
