Replace the stars with Citroen badges to match the suspension behaviour.

It's been just over a month now and although the car still sinks slightly, it shows no signs of inappropriate behaviour or any warning signs.
Did 1,400 miles in the last month - of which 570 were Sunday/Monday and even at eight years old it sTill looks and fees like new.
I am however considering the move to electric. My accountant advises that come April 2020, the company car rates are very advantageous, especially as my company can buy the car with immediate write off of the cost within in the first year. Effectively a £30,000 car costs the company about £24,000 and my tax bill over the next three years will be based upon a total of £900 (£0 year 1, £300 BIK year 2 then £600 BIK year 3).
Its very tempting, as 95% of my time in the car is for journeys of less than 50 miles. Take away a handful of longer (250 mile or more) journeys each year I average about 150 miles a week.

Ideal. Do it, and use the wife's car for long distances if necessary.
Don't forget to offer the E for sale on here. You never know...

Make me an offer! It's done 55,845 miles and is exactly 8 years old.

That sounds as if it would make very good sense. It's a pity that - assuming that you're going pure EV rather than PHEV - the cars big enough for your family either have a year's waiting list (Kia E-Niro) or cost a fortune (Jaguar I-Pace, Audi e-tron, Tesla Model S). Maybe a secondhand Model S?
Out of interest, did your firm's merger go through?

Make me an offer! It's done 55,845 miles and is exactly 8 years old. Using this car's reg and putting it in WBAC with 55k miles and FSH gives a value of £8695. www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201908141124567So about £8.5k seems a fair private offer. Not sure I can stretch to that, but if you do put it up for sale let me know and I'll have a rummage behind the sofa cushions. Because it's about as near to a known car as I'd ever get and I'd trust your word on its condition - although obviously caveat emptor applies and there'd be no comebacks at all if it developed any faults, you'd have my word on that.

Avant - In reality I rarely need a car the size of the Merc. I could easily use a taxi to go to the airport with large amounts of luggage. Otherwise the need for a car this size is very limited. The car needs to be new otherwise you can't get the 100% write off in year 1.
Well remembered about the merger. I decided it wasn't for me. It was too restrictive and financially probably not good enough in the long term. I am have managed to make some major asjustments to the staffing in my office and I am in a far better position than I was a year ago, both in terms of money and also in terms of long term succession.
Al - I will bear you in mind of course. My financial controller did mention that I make a reasonable 'profit' in claiming 45ppm on my car and that if I had a compnay car that would reduce significantly. But I suppose I can still claim 11ppm for an electric car if the company does not pay for electricity. I wonder on 8,000 miles pa what sort of costs would be incurred and what profit would be generated as company car driver?
Note that the vast majority of my driving is business related so I claim back (and have done for 20+ years) something like 95% of my annual mileage.

Currently sitting in reception at a Merc dealership in Paris. Near Gare De Lyon. Rear wheel puncture being fixed or replaced. Pain in the arse. Not even a space saver on this car. Cross 😡

Oops. Why do you need a dealership for a puncture?

Ah! with a 6 cylinder 8 year old car I have a space saver!
Sorry to hear that Humph. It's a pain without enough or any spares (as I know full well from Iceland...). How did it happen? Is it fixed?

Wasn't that King Richard I's nickname - Gare de Lyon? He was just the sort of hothead who wouldn't have had a spare wheel.

All fixed, in London now, probably the last time I’ll seamlessly drive from Paris to here with just the most basic of checks at the tunnel. Good run actually, left central Paris at 6.00pm and was in bed in my hotel in central London about 11.30 pm. New tyre stupidly expensive though, daren't tell you how much, you’ll just scold me.
