>> He's also trying to locate an umbrella for me as there's a still a gap in the door where it should be... Isn't there space for an umbrella in both doors? My car had that - and came with two umbrellas. For some reason (cough) it went back with only one. Yes there is, but the cars are only supplied from the factory these days with one umbrella.

Had to wash it yesterday, I could barely see out of it due to tree sap. I have now put the Rolla on the drive and the Superb in the garage until winter. The lacquer and paintwork on the Rolla is shagged anyway, so it can take the tree sap/leaf hit for a couple of months.

Good to make it yours. Before you know it you’ll be fitting unbranded tyres and getting trapped under the fallen tailgate. 😛

After experiencing the benefits of Michelin Cross Climates for several years now, I'll not go back to budget tyres, or Bridgestone ones come to that...

I’m sure you did, but it’s really good practice to ensure a car is thoroughly dry in every nook and cranny before storing in a garage for any length of time. That would have been a challenge here this weekend. ☔️

Bigger challenge round here today. But I don't think Vić is planning to just leave the Škoda indoors unused.

No, of course not. Just trying to keep sap off it for the time being, but it will be out and about.

Last night I had a couple of cross country drives to do. First one, took the Leaf, biblical rain and dark made country roads a bit of a challenge with its feeble headlights, so when I got home between trips I swapped to the Skodillac, purely because of its incredible headlights. Man, what a car it is. Great bit of kit.

The difference to night driving, really good headlights make is immense.
From tungsten to halogen, then HID and now LED...

I think the worst headlights I’ve had on a modern-ish car were on my Xantia. Glow-worms would have been more useful. The halogen ones on the Feep are actually not at all bad, but the LEDs on the Merc are in a different league. The Aygo lights are pretty feeble.

When deciding between paying extra for the Mazda6 Sport or the cheaper TS2 I wanted to compare halogen and HID. So I drove to the Snake Pass in the Mondeo and did a bit of it - so totally dark. Then came back and swapped into the Mazda6 loan car I had and went back. This time I did all of the Snake Pass... Wow I thought that is the difference between night and day.
I decided to compare Mazda6 and Passat CC (demo car had bi Xenon HIDs) and wow... that was even better. Because when I could use them it had full beam HID too. And again it made you decide the small extra per month was worth it. But when I came back via the Woodhead Pass there was fog so I found the design flaw in the light switch... You pull the dial out for fogs but you couldn't from auto! So you get to switch via side then main beam which meant your lights went out! Glad I did it on a straight bit.
The Audi A3 had buttons for foglights and the Superb fixed the design flaw. But at times the A3 was not as good as the Passat in my opinion because the lights were adaptive. So at lower speeds the pattern was spread wider and did not reach as far which is what it was meant to do. But I always felt on say a 40 to 50mph road the beam should have been thrown further.
I added the auto full beam smart lighting on the Superb though so it could keep full beam on but shield parts of the light. Not as good as matrix but it worked. But I think I preferred if it had manual full beam.
Lights on the BMW were adaptive LED but no better than the Superb's HIDs.

I've got no idea what sort of lamps are in my headlights. But they're bloody good.

The LEDs in my Focus are good, very good in fact, the Volvo lights are halogen and do the job. Blown headlight bulb in the Volvo £30 for a pair and ten minutes to replace, no idea for the Ford.
I do know it's >900€ for one new LED headlight for my Ford. A pair of halogen headlights for my Volvo are 600€

If Ford ones are €900, then Merc ones will be, erm, oh dear… 😬

Yesterday I noticed the rear air suspension on a neighbour's 2011 E350CDI estate had collapsed. Retired chap, doesn't use it much.
