....aaaah, The Crooked Billet! I bet the "ambience" isn't the same as when Nobby used to run it..... This is exactly how I remember it (this picture, which includes Nobyy, was apparently 1982, a few years after I moved back North). Beer served in the hallway directly from the cask, and drunk in the front "parlour". Happy days.

Is there a dedicated cycling thing there at Stoke Row, or do you just use paths/bridleways? What's your entry point, as it were?
I've never been in the Crooked Billet oddly enough, despite only living a few miles away. That picture looks like a pub near my Mum's in West Wales though, The Dyffryn Arms, known locally as Auntie Bessie's, after the elderly landlady who still ran it the old way, beer served straight from the barrel behind a serving hatch, drunk in the parlour. It sadly had a fire not so long ago and I don't know if she's called it a day now.

I've never been in the Crooked Billet oddly enough........ ...given that Kate Winslett subsequently held a wedding reception there, I suspect it is now rather different. (Though you never know where luvvies are involved).

...well, not me cycling, but...
I managed to escape the invalid today for some much-needed R&R in the Peak District.
Picked up my walking colleague in Sheffield, and had a good 10 mile circular walk from Monsal Head (a bit damp, but enjoyable all the same).
On the return we called in at Monsal Station cafe for refreshment (a cafe is de rigeur for our walks) and then set out back to Monsal Head along the (old railway) Monsal Trail.
Heading towards us was a guy on a Unicycle, not quite as old as we two. As he passed us, I looked at my walking companion and mouthed "Kevin?". He nodded "think so".
So I turned round and shouted "Kevin!" at the retreating back, and he rather fell off the Unicycle.
It was indeed Kevin, who had worked for both of us in the dim, distant past (I suspect I hadn't seen him for over 15 years). We had a good chew of the fat, and he then set off, having failed to successfully mount the thing several times until we turned our backs.
I'm not entirely sure about the Unicycle thing, but I understand that his wife had bought it for him around 10 years ago, and that bestows a duty to use it every once in a while to show gratitude.

Certainly not, in fact it's great at those sorts of temps. Especially with the long climbs we'll do if we go to any of the Welsh venues. Mental note to self not to forget gloves though !
Edit - oh I see what you mean !
Well, yes but, no but, aye well, you never know...

Survived, just...
I suppose I may have been more tired, wet and cold at some time, but I'm struggling to remember when.
Kind of enjoyed it though...
