So you believe that not having an internal combustion engine will take away the desire for a large storage area with a large entrance? Not at all; that's my preferred style too. Just that the vehicles that have them won't look like today's estate cars because they won't need to. This is already happening. They won't all be SUVs either, as some buyers will prefer the accessibility advantages of a lower floor. There just won't be the need to accommodate an ICE drivetrain, which will free up space, so the proportions and overall scale will be different.

Sometimes, just sometimes, I’m quite glad to be fairly old. Almost certainly my selective perception of course, but it does quite strongly feel like we had the best of it.
Too many rules now.
Orwellian even.
Can’t argue with a lot of them of course, but it just doesn’t feel like as much fun is available or acceptable.
Hey ho, kind of not my problem eh?

So the shape of an estate care is driven (see what I did there?) by the need to account for exhaust system, petrol tank and often the drive train? I guess so, but how much? I can see how significant difference might occur at the front, though even then I'm not sure. 911s and Fiat 500s still have bonnets etc. And at the back, surely less? The differences between hatch, estate, saloon and pick-up haven't been driven by space required by the power train.

Stuff, and people of course. Even if there emerges a world where everything is operating theatre level clean, stuff and people will still need to be moved. I hope those solutions to their movements turn out to be at least slightly entertaining.

I might say there will always be a bonnet/frunk area for safety reasons but what about an original VW Camper? But then we didn't think of safety then. So I think anything new will have some crash protection at the front.
But as for the rear... powertrain/engine hasn't dictated the shape surely? It's the fact you need a box shape at the rear to have maximum load space.
EVs certainly will allow more options for shape/size of cars with more space inside if the batteries are mounted low in the chassis.

When you consider that a decent real camper van can cost north of GBP 80 grand, I’d be happy with this Jogger and keep the change for some decent hotel accommodation when on the road!

I keep meaning to buy one of those clip on the back of an estate car extension tent thingies. You use the back of the car to sleep in and the tent bit as a, well, a tent bit for tenty things.
I could imagine using such a thing for an odd night away.
Barbecue and so on. Bikes aloft. Adventuresome you’d think. Just the weeing in a bucket thing as a downside I suppose.

When I drove the EV6 recently, I was rather taken with the front "comfort" seat idea. Unfortunately, at least one part of this picture didn't come true. My salesman looked nothing like this.

I could claim that the person in the driving seat is a reasonable facsimilie of Espadrille, who will occasionally take up that position in the Ioniq 5... But the chances of me joining her are slim as, if she was required to sleep in the car, I would be in a non-existant tent outside with the dog. In fact the dog would be in the car with her.

Probably safer than the tent on the roof option especially when you get to the stage of needing to get up in the night to pee. Last thing you need is a fall and new hip.
