It's just a preference, no licence constraints. Her preference is stronger than mine. Bloody traffic round my way is almost unbearable in a manual. But then, our non-EV is currently for long journeys, not local diving about. Still, she no likey. And we do what we can for them, don't we.
Shame that the auto hybrid (but still non plug-in, goddammit) Jogger isn't coming until next year.

Driving the manual Punto has put a strain on my body... Painful shoulder and a right knee that really hurts after a while due to the weird angle my ankle needs to be at to use the accelerator. My Ioniq cannot come fast enough.

Isn’t that a small, FWD, RHD car problem more than anything Fiat- or manual-specific? The car is designed for LHD to use as little space at the front as it can get away with. Any bulges in the bulkhead go on the right, out of the driver’s way. But translate, rather than reflect, that to RHD and the accelerator and the wheelarch are competing for the same space on one side, and those bulges are where your clutch foot wants to be on the other.
Actually, there’s a thought. I’ve only ever driven one small LHD car, a Seat Ibiza in Spain 25 years ago. That was fine, as I remember, but do small LHD cars today do as well?

Don't think it's any worse than clutch and wheelarch competing on a LHD model especially for anyone paddling size 10 or more or, the accelerator being tucked behind the centre console to make space for the third pedal.
Most manufacturer's do the crossover back on the engine side of the firewall (I know y'all like your Americanisms) though there is the infamous case of the Citroën C3 I think it was where the passenger in a RHD can poke their toe up behind the dashboard/glovebox an operate the brakes.
Something in my knee went ping last week, my right leg looked like Hellboy's arm. Can't bend my right knee and can't get in or out of the front passenger seat of our BEV, the door openings are too short even with the passenger seat in the most rearward position - I could go right leg first but then I'd be facing backwards and look like I'm waiting for a prostate examination with the door closed 🤣. I can slide my leg in first on the driver's side and get in but can't drive so rear seat driver for the week.
Actually, it's funny how with age being a rear seat passenger no longer bothers me. I used to be a terrible passenger now I can sit, look out the window, read whatever on my tablet or phone and switch off from what's going on outside. Man, I'm getting old.

Yes, the few times I’ve enjoyed being driven by MrsB1 have been in France since Boys1&2 learned to sit up front and read a map. I can then sit directly behind her and admire the passing scenery without being tempted to still think like a driver.
Hope the knee improves soon, BPG.

I thought I was feeling old. Hope it all gets better BPG!
Must admit that life is a bit easier now I can send Daughter on errands and I can stay at home watching videos and drinking whisky.

I feel fine, and I shall be 64 this year!
Well, apart from the dodgy elbows, knees, back, hearing and eyesight that is. Everything else is still good.

Hope the knee improves soon, BPG. Thanks WDB and Esp. Pain is more manageable now, I'm a grumpy bugger when I can't sleep.

Try swimming (if you don’t already bpg) I have all manner of old injuries that give me a hard time if I don’t keep moving on a regular basis, I find when they are at their most disgruntled, that a non load bearing excercise like that is really useful. I try to swim at least 5 nights a week and when I can’t, I start to seize up like the brakes on a shonky old Toyota.

Yes, swimming, cycling and walking have all been recommended, anything light impact. I want to get out on my bike again when my knee will move enough. We used to go swimming often COVID stopped that and things still aren't back to 'normal' here yet.
Edit: the joys of glass knees and age. Keep telling myself things will get better.

Should have seen the smoke coming out of my Mondeo TDCi when the first EGR failed - it was like a Bond car. Somehow the second EGR failure meant the car ran to a stop, would not start and made a strange quacking sound. The RAC man was baffled too.
