I have always tried to buy interesting cars, but some over promised and under delivered. Others by contrast were wonderful beyond expectations. My favourite was the S-Max. I called it the seven seat Ferrari. Possibly the best family car Ford (if not anyone) has ever built. I wish I had driven one with the Volvo 5-pot turbo engine, but it was manual only and given my type of driving, that was too much of a pfaff. But even the boggy 2.0 TDCi with the six speed slushbox was a great drive. It is one of the few cars I would happily have back. I love the comments about MPG. I am not a heavy driver, but even in the 17 year old 1.2l Punto I am currently tooling around in pending arrival of Ioniq 5, the economy is only just 40mpg. Clearly I do far too much urban driving compared to others. When we went on holiday once we hired a car - it was a Renault Scenic, our first experience of that kind of vehicle. It was on Orkney, where you can walk from attraction to another (and there are only about two) in about six minutes, so that was worthwhile. We quite liked the type of car, even if not that one specifically. Then did some research, picked the S-Max as a definite possibility, then never pulled the trigger. To this day madam's eyes light up if I mention the S-Max. Definitely going to be interested to hear about the Ioniq 5 experience when it comes, then.

To mildly conflate or at least, confuse topics, I hired a Skoda Kamiq in Northern Ireland recently. Rather liked it in a "I probably wouldn't buy one, but its ok as a renter" sort of way. Anyway, if you're still awake, it had that lane keeping assist witchcraft. I was in a bit of a rush to be different places that day so didn't have the time or energy to figure out how to turn that off. Now, it disengages if you indicate, but in parts of NI there really isn't anyone to indicate to on a wet Monday morning.
Sort of fights back if you cross any white lines. Didn't like that as I didn't cross any without meaning to.

Assuming it's the same as I had in the Superb there are two places it needs turning off. There is the lane keep assist which will try to keep you in lane but not do this if you indicate. Then there's the active lane bit that will steer and keep you in the middle of the lane. The latter is only available when the other is on but you can have the keep assisting without the active steering.
The 330e has keep assist but the full lane steering is an option which is only available when you have adaptive cruise control. When you have that it detects and displays the vehicles in the different lanes and I think will even change lane for you when you indicate assuming it's safe to do so.

I quite like making the decisions myself when driving.

Me too. I strongly disliked it in the Enyaq I tried (an EV that can tow, incidentally) when it mistook longitudinal road repairs for white lines and tried to steer me to the left of them. I worked out what was going on and worked around it because there was no opportunity to switch it off, but there are drivers (I know one such quite well) who I seriously think might just panic, with unknown and potentially unpleasant consequences.

Evenin' all.
>>when the Chilean was removed from the other place, I thought it lost a bunch of colour. I wouldn't go so far as saying his crimes were "as spots on the sun", to paraphrase Rajani Palme Dutt's quote about Stalin, but he was a definite curatical egg of a contributor. However, house rules is house rules, and the house, as we know, always wins.
It's my own fault, I should have known better than to argue with Dave. I can't say I am unduly irritated though.
And whilst I have no intention of revisiting the argument here, it is perhaps worth saying that I didn't actually break any forum rules. I just refused to agree with Dave. Anyway, that's all behind us now and not really worthy of conversation.
I shall now go on a wander around and see what catches my conversational fancy.

"... I didn't actually break any forum rules."
On the occasion in question, perhaps not. But I imagine no-one believes you were "defenestrated" on the basis of one occasion. There was quite a bit of history.
"Anyway, that's all behind us now and not really worthy of conversation."
But you've raised the issue, so perhaps, deep down, you think it is.

No, really not worth discussing. Not here, not there

Good, glad that’s settled then. 😉
Anyway, welcome back and I hope you and yours are about to enjoy as good a Christmas as you can under the current circs.

The house doesn’t always win... we lost a moderator from here a few months ago! 😬

Anyway, welcome back and I hope you and yours are about to enjoy as good a Christmas as you can under the current circs. Thanks. Right back at you. Though since it is the height of summer here life is not too onerous. I think it was 37 degrees today, which is hot enough. It means people outside and not spreading nasty viruses.

The house doesn’t always win... we lost a moderator from here a few months ago! 😬 Not permanently, I hope, if he’s looking in. At this time seven years ago, I was in the air between Santiago and Paris, where I arrived to find the Air France staff in the lounge wearing Santa hats and dispensing chocolates and champagne. I don’t suppose it’s quite like that today. Anyway, that was a long time ago, and I’ve not been outside Europe since. Nice to see you again, Chileno. How’s the ceviche?

Not quite as hot as Chile here, but it’s nudging 30 degrees and sunburn is a risk. Won’t be eating Christmas lunch at lunchtime tomorrow - too hot. Will wait until early evening. Presumably in Chile the big Christmas dinner is on the evening of the 24th?

Think I'm going to wear a Santa hat on my bike today. No one else will have thought of that will they? 🤓
