BLIS is about warning you before you change lane into the path of someone else. Not necessary in a Mercedes, which inspires an instinctive deference in other road users, who just stay out of one's way. Do you know what, silly as it sounds there might be something in this. I've had barely any near-miss-cutting-up incidents since having the E, it was almost a daily occurrence in the SAAB. Seem to remember I used to have a thread cataloguing them elsewhere, "Idiot of the Day". An appalling thought that it is even possible that people decide how to drive dependent on the badge being worn by other cars. Indeed, the rest of us know how bad Merc Drivers are and avoid them like the plague. Same way we wont let BMW drivers out in front of us.

It is a bit embarrassing when other drivers take their hands off the wheel to touch their forelock. There's no need for it really.

I do take that approach to Merc drivers when in North-West London. Also Toyota Corollas. The segment roughly described by the M4, M1 and M25.

I took my niece's C1 for a spin last week, infinitely better car. Genuinely like it.

Just trying to guess what the indie's courtesy car is. Some sort of Vauxhall possibly, or perhaps a Fiat Punto? Or a Citroen C2, given your comment about the C1. The C2 was the one where the man who designed the front half didn't meet the man who designed the back half until rather too late in the proceedings.
(Sorry - I may have missed it if you said what it was earlier: been away for 10 days in the Scillies and Mullion - amazingly no rain.)

I'm taking ' bar stool' to indicate something unhelpfully tall, but without the power or presence to make a virtue of it. A Suzuki Wagon R or the Vauxhall equivalent, perhaps.

Ah right, the courtesy car was a Mk1 Mercedes A Class. Gutless petrol auto.
Mine's back. The transmission oil change has almost smoothed things right out. There is a still a modicum of hesitation at low revs when engine/gearbox are cold, but after that all traces of lumpiness are gone. Much smoother. The mechanic commented that the oil which came out wasn't too black/bad, indicating that the TC isn't really on its last legs after all. So I'll just carry on as is, I don't expect it to fail now. He suspects the slight lean at the rear is a problem with an airbag, but it might just be that it's older and a bit baggier than the other side. Advice was to live with it, monitor, and take it in if it drops right down on the wheel.

Might that not be just a little too late? A little like my talking MG Montego which had in its memory the warning message "The brakes have failed, stop the car immediately".
Can you see/ get to the air bag? If you can, measure its height. Both sides.

I expect it can be got at and inspected but it's likely to be beyond my skills/available time/willingness to bugger about. The mechanic was talking about getting in to hours of labour charges just to work out what's up, so I don't think it'd be a quick easy job for me. I think they're advising me that yeah, it'll probably die, but cross that bridge when we come to it (it might take years) and when a genuine failure occurs they'll probably know what it is straight away, rather than going down the road of trial and error now, which will soon add up in terms of cost. There's no safety problem they can see, so carry on regardless for now.
If I get a minute on my home computer I'll post up a picture of the back end if I can work out how.
