Haven’t looked at it for a long while, but I’m sure there were companies that would lease a car for really quite short periods like 3 months or somesuch.

Maybe I should ask if I could do my job for a month or two longer Found some work I can be of help with which needs more than a few days - probably quite a few weeks. Basically trying to train up people and do knowledge share before I leave and take a lot of what I know with me.* * Now you might say don't you have to do that before you go anyway? But I work on projects and mine are all finished and it's my knowledge/experience in general I am talking about. Maybe I should go and wait to see if they want me back every now and then as a (remote) contractor?

That can be very lucrative.

A quick google would suggest that it is possible to lease a car for as few as three months Rob. Not gone into costs or anything but it seems to be an option anyway.
Or, I guess you could just buy something that would take you on to your next chapter in life.

Where I want to spend some time is Greece - hence not wanting a car longer term. I'll look into those short leases although it will probably be cheaper to buy and sell sometime even though you make a loss.
I still can't believe a friend/colleague managed to lease a car for 2 years for just over £220pm with no deposit. It was a Volvo V90. Another did similar with a VW. It's all in the timing of finding the deals of course.

The 2 quid litre is coming Al... do you really want a 2.3 petrol?!
I suspect household energy bills are going to rise quite a bit more too 😬

I put 63 litres in the CLS yesterday; first time in a while. It cost me a whisker under £100. The petrol stations around Oxford were busy and some seemed to have pumps out of action, as if there’d been a rush on supplies in anticipation of big price increases.

Last week when I went to the Tesco Extra for petrol (down to last 40 miles range) there was no diesel. On Monday when I went for shopping there was no petrol. Could just be coincidence or people buying before fuel goes up in price?

Pretty sure that’s exactly what is happening.

I suspect household energy bills are going to rise quite a bit more too 😬 dixi, as I have been painstakingly pointing out, the miles I do in our second car are minimal, hence I'm not overly worried about only getting 30mpg. Also, I have been at pains to point out that it is precisely because of the looming increases in cost of living, like energy bills and tax rises, that I am considering cutting out a monthly car payment to free up cash flow to deal with this in the near future. It's the whole point of the potential exercise. I've reanalysed my cash flow for the next 18 months this morning, and I'm a bit more happy that I can keep paying for the Honda, so I am probably going to keep it now. My monthlies run to next May, then I will have to find about 4k to pay the final balance. I am nervous about it though. I haven't got much margin for error.

Thing is Al, if you can navigate through it all financially in the short term, you’ll still have a car that will be ideal for your long term use. Can’t help feeling that now is the wrong time to change unless you really have to, chances are that Honda won’t let you down for a long while yet, if ever. Buying an old thing might be short term cheaper but might also turn out to be a bit of a millstone. If you want my uninvited advice, I’d say keep it if you can, but if that’s not viable, then sell it and don’t replace it for now. Or at least don’t replace it with something that might bite you in places you don’t want to be bitten.

Oh don’t be too hard on him WDB, I know very well how the Micawber scenario plays. Been there more than once, and got all the T shirts. Even the special edition ones! 😬
I think of selling my car most weeks and then I think of keeping it forever just as often. 😉

Still might change my mind again (what with being able to do exactly as I like), so you'd better get another one in so you can be right again.

I saw a Tipo estate again at the weekend. Don’t know why that just came to me, but I remember them being discussed here as potential cheap but canny cars. Anyway, the one I saw looked pretty good for what it was.
