Is your area that far ahead or does the surgery think you have an underlying health condition? I'd have thought you'd get the generic letter from the NHS to book for a vaccine at one of the larger centres, e.g. the Etihad.

Mrs B got an invite from the surgery, she recognises her BMI may make her vulnerable, and that may be a reason. I got a generic letter but by that time I'd booked based on my sister's tip off. Mrs B also got the generic letter but a week or so after she'd been given jab # 1 You could say that in her case it was inefficient to invite her twice but (a) she may have missed the surgery invite or (b) it's less costly to send a second invite off a mailing list than pay £10/hr to get the mailing list edited for those with a surgery invite when doing so may sweep up some who'd actually missed their text.

It varies as to who's doing the jabs. We were rung up by our local GP practice, and the jabs were done at their surgery (sorry, health centre). Great efficiency and no queuing.
Thinking of that, does anyone know what on earth the difference is between 'health' and 'wellness'?

The latter term allows imaginary medicines and treatments to be marketed without legal risk.

I live at the confluence of Manchester, Salford & Bury so my social circle is mixed amongst all three areas and no one appears to be particularly behind or far ahead. I have no underlying health issues and a friend who is 58 was jabbed this morning and he lives in Bury (I'm Manchester) so it seems that overall the Greater Manchester area is a little ahead of the UK. I think that 50+ people were not meant to be called until w/c 15th March?? The Irish World Heritage Centre is a major centre, if not as large as the Etihad and I know many retired doctors who are now vaccinating there (I expect to be jabbed by one of three people today all of whom I know well). It is a little nearer to my house than the Etihad which is a bit of a shame for a Cityzen..

There's really no need to tell us when you've had a jab, I can see you instantly on the Bill Gates-a-Tron satellite tracker.

About to have the jab. The centre is in an area with a large Asian community.
If people were worried that that community was not getting vaccinated they need not. A good proportion of non-white people here.

I've been trying the central NHS site for a few days to see if it would let my wife book (in the age 55-59 group). It would only get to the 'are you a carer bit'. Now it will let her book I think. Just checked and after asking about flue vaccines you get to the select a centre stage.
She's back from work in a few minutes so we'll see if I can really book it.

It doesn't stack up.

Anyway went through the process and indeed she could get an appointment. Initially looked like this Sunday at the Etihad was possible but by the time you'd selected the second date and typed in phone number/email for confirmation the first appointment slot had gone. So next Tuesday it is.

Had mine (AZ) this morning. Big vaccination centre at Moulton Park, opposite side of town but easy enough to find. Possibly an existing NHS site or could be re-purposed large open plan office. Marshalled parking like at an airshow or the NEC. Wait in car until booked time - traffic good so I was early.
Other than giving my name, address etc to at least three different people it was pretty efficient. Initial triage to eliminate the symptomatic/exposed and then short queue for a Nurse to do a clinical assessment around allergies, possibility of contra-indicated medication etc the another short queue, jabbed and away. Told to wait either in site or in my car for 15mins. If I felt odd in the car I was to sound my horn and the Marshalls would summon assistance.

Odd they'd let you wait in a car alone. I don't think that's the norm - okay if you're with someone. I assume you've had the Pfizer vaccine then?

Not so different really from where I was. Mine was at the GP centre, and I was just directed to the reception waiting area for my 15-minute precautionary period. Nobody actively checked on me, but there were people there who’d have noticed if I’d keeled over. And then nobody seemed to mind when I just got up and left when my time expired.
