Not totally untrue but the same circle can be draw replacing Senior Tories with Senior Union Leaders as follows: -
SUL push to maintain restrictions against economic advice >>>> UK ends Lockdown too late and economy recovers far too slowly to save millions of jobs >>>> SUL push to start restrictions too early >>> UK enters Lockdown to vastly increased unemployment rate >>>
It is a balance. Probably the only serious mistakes made were starting lockdown about a week too late and more importantly continuing to let people into the country (transiting via an airport is different) without good reason and not insisting on and policing quarantine properly.
Thereafter, the population have been broadly supportive of restrictions where sensibly applied, and will see the road to freedom as a sensible path between too fast and too slow. Yes, I would have permitted a few more outdoor thinigs a bit earlier, but opening up some areas, seeing the response in the daily figures after a couple of weeks or so and then continuing is reasonable. Every country opened too early last year and if we want to avoid returning to restrictions we need to start very slowly.
The ability of the government to vaccinate the population as quickly as it had, has bought Boris some goodwill and therefore the ability to open up far more slowly than his back benchers want to. The vaccination rate needs to be maintained. It was very low yesterday..

Why on Earth do Union Leaders want people to lose their jobs? Perhaps these ULs (whoever they are) can see that doing lockdowns right is better economically in the long term than bodging it like the Tories have done.
I think Boris is giving himself a bit of rope by which to dangle by being so focussed on dates, not data, despite saying he'd do the opposite. His roadmap should have schools opening when certain data points are met in terms of vaccinations achieved and infection rates (e.g not until all over 50s are vaccinated, and the R remains below 1), not an arbitrary date of 8th March. And so on with the rest of the easings.

Well, morals or otherwise, I’ve been done this morning. All very smooth, although the left arm is showing signs of soreness — which is probably a good sign.

Don't worry Humph - he's a manager senior enough to have someone else do multiplication for him.
Quite fun to wonder what car you had when you were 23. Mine (in 1971) was an MG 1300 which I came to regret as it wasn't reliable. Wished I'd gone for a Triumph Vitesse.

So who hasn't had a vaccine yet?? A few seem to. But there's only a few of us. I know some are older than me so ahead in queues ;-)

Still waiting for the call. I'm getting the impression my local area is a bit behind, I know people in their mid-60s who haven't been called yet. Hoping the new mass vaccination centre will speed things up soon.

Car at 23 was a Peugeot 104ZS ANB 736T. When it was on song it was a super little thing. Handled as well as a Mini but was much quicker and way more refined/comfortable. Ate head gaskets, probably due to a dicky earth for the cooling fan. If I'd known then what I know now I'd have fitted a temperature gauge and sorted an alternative route to earth for the fan.
At 61 in Northants I'm still waiting for the call for vaccination. Mrs B 62 had hers on Tuesday. Her call came via the village surgery which may indicate being 'bumped up' for an underlying condition. BMI has been a near lifelong issue for her.

Still waiting for the vaccine. It's coming though. People I know who are early 60s are getting the call in my area. I'm 56.
Aged 23 I was driving my new Golf Mk2 CL with the low power but high torque 1.6 engine. I put the GTi twin headlight grille on it and a golf ball gearknob. Little things when one is young...
Funnily enough I ended up a couple of years later with a company Mk2 Golf Driver which was a low power version of the GTi with the same engine as my CL. Nicer wheels and interior but only 3dr. It did seem quicker, I suspect because the gearing was a little lower. I don't think I ever had a company car that was anything other than a hand me down. It did mean that I got to drive cars better than my status in the company suggested.

Mt sister, who is one of the NHS Managers making the logistics of vaccination work, messaged me late last week to say bookings were open for 60-63 year olds. At the time the bookings website still said 64 or over but my sis had sent me another document that said 60 so I tried booking.
Appointment on Friday; some place on an industrial estate on the other side of town.
I subsequently got a letter inviting me to book.

Knowing over 60s could book from yesterday I told my wife to tell a colleague to give it a try. She didn't during the day but when she got home she had the letter. For some reason she's booked an appointment for nearly 2 weeks away! I cannot work out her logic. She was excited to get the chance to have the vaccine, is keen to have the vaccine but has selected a date the week after next.

Text from my surgery at 3:50 today with a link to book a jab. Being vaccinated at 3:20 tomorrow. About two weeks earlier than I expected.
