An Edinburgh friend told me last night that his wife has tested positive for Covid over the weekend. Not at all well sadly. They had both already had their first jabs and were due to have their second ones this week. Instead, she is poorly and he and their youngest, who still lives at home, are now isolating.

It's not something I imagine anyone wants to catch. I woke up on Friday morning feeling distinctly second-hand. Sore throat, 37.9C temperature . Took a test which came back negative. Not sure what it was but pretty certain I do not want Covid.

We don't stop travelling because of flu, so now the country is getting close to herd immunity because of vaccination why are we worried about the Olympics or Euro2020? This report: www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/uk-covid-early-stages-third-wave-b938102.htmlSuggests we're still dealing with a bit more than 'flu. 96-97% bed occupancy is more than what was expected or predicted prior to opening everything up again.

Scaremongering...
Sorry but with huge swathes of the population vaccinated and those who are not being the least vulnerable to being really ill, it is time to open up. People can take their own risks now.
I would not go into a crowded room even though I am twice jabbed, but I cannot see hospitals being overwhelmed with Covid patients now. Even Bolton Hospital (where a friend is a surgeon and working flat out) is not overwhelmed and that is virus central at the moment.

I'm sorry EIII but there are sevearl factors you are not considering. The primary one being the possibilty of new variants with vaccine escape in them arising from a surge in cases amongst the unvaccinated.

After dodging Covid tests for over a year, I’ve now done three in a week with a fourth to follow on Friday. The lateral flow last weekend was a requirement of entry to Edgbaston on Sunday, and there are two follow-up PCRs to help the assessment exercise for the event. The first of those came back negative yesterday.
Then yesterday, while I was stuck in hot traffic in the Aygo, I started to feel utterly wretched — temperature, sweating, aches all over. Got home, made my excuses at work and slept the rest of the day. Well, we know what that means, don’t we?
There was also a tender red area on my right thigh, that was worse this morning. So now I was imagining awful things about blood clots; off to 111, who said ‘contact your GP’. So I did that and she invited me to the surgery car park for a consultation through the passenger window of the i3. And she came up with the much more sensible explanation that the red area is an infected insect bite (something did ping me round there on Saturday.) So now I’ve got a packet of antibiotics to chew through. But she also suggested I do another PCR, just in case, so I’ve sent that off this afternoon.
I’m not expecting anything but a negative from that too. Anything else would be a major embuggerance to our theatre and gallery trip to London on Friday-Saturday. But it’s all a good illustration of how easy it is to overthink a situation in a time of public panic.

Maybe, but I suspect a horsefly or similar at the cricket ground we played at on Saturday. Bar steward.

Horseflies are indeed of the greatest concern when wearing a kilt. Not that I'd imagine you were dong so while playing cricket. But, I just thought it was worth mentioning in case you ever do.

I can assure you I was not. But cricket trousers are long, so presumably this thing took advantage of my shorts as I was arriving or leaving.

Horseflies wearing kilts would be of grave concern to me Humph. Time to give up the drink... 🤣

Back at work this morning. Leg still sore, just above and behind the knee, right where it rests on the hard edge of my office chair (which I never usually notice) but I had my first uninterrupted night’s sleep in a week and didn’t have to wring out the T-shirt in the morning, which is progress.
Boy2 went in my place with MrsB1 to the National Theatre on Friday and we postponed the rest of the trip sine die but at least till after our holiday. The only bit I couldn’t either cancel or defer was the £8 I’d paid to park the car, when they decided to go by train instead.
In future, I’ll be treating horseflies with an enhanced combination of wariness and extreme violence.

Is the vaccine really working? Is it effective against the delta variant? Saw a headline today claiming that 47% of current UK cases have been vaccinated?! Do we need booster shots already?
Can’t help thinking that when all restrictions are lifted next week we could be creating a whole heap of trouble for ourselves 😬
