You used to get a sunroof with a Ghia. But only a manual winding one. First car I had with an electric sunroof was a Xantia. I had quite long hair then and Xantias had a low roof. On more than one occasion I managed to trap my hair in the sunroof when closing it if it was windy. Very undignified if you had to spend any time freeing it on the move.

Yes our Escort 1.6 Ghia had a windy windy sunroof. And how I fondly remember the electric sunroof giving up on my first Alfa 33, and securing it with gaffer tape. Happy, simpler times.
I like a sunroof on a clear winter day, in the closed position with the blind open. In the summer, they're useless. Too hot when closed on a sunny day, you have to keep the blind drawn over it. And no good open either because aircon is disrupted, and you get buffeting at speed.
I don't mind a car with one, but I won't seek one out.

Ah, well, y'see, the Mercedes Benz ones don't buffet. A gentle, barely audible, wafty breeze at speed, but nothing more intrusive. 😉

Bit risky getting you hair trapped in a Citroen sunroof mind. You never know if it's going to open again. Do the RAC carry hairdressing scissors?

Moustache in place already of course, I just have to shave the rest of my face. But that might upset the children. You’ll need a loud check suit too. Brown will do nicely.

It's a nice offer BPG, even if its is a wind up...but yes, I don't want a diesel because DPFs. Not suitable for a car which won't get a long run regularly. That S60 gets used for maybe 3 months in the winter and a run one weekend in the summer. Never had an issue with the DPF. It regenerates like clockwork, usually 100 miles in to a full tank. On a long run it can do a second regen on the same tank of fuel at around the 650 to 700 miles mark. I get it though where you are I wouldn't go diesel either, local authorities will ban them before too long I expect. Shame, it really is a great car to cover miles in the torque and sixth gear combo takes you from 60-120mph in 1,500rpm pretty effortlessly.

I think it’ll be years before even big cities exclude DPF-equipped diesels. They’ll ban Euro-3s and 4s first, and they mostly haven’t done that yet. That’ll put later diesels on notice but I think those of us that have them have ten years in hand — not that I often take mine anywhere near a city.

I think when the UK gets around to banning private diesel cars it'll be an all or nothing approach. If there is an exception it'll be an adblue temp 6d motor.

I didn’t know about the Bristol thing but even that is an exclusion from a small, very central zone. The UK (and the Daily Mail) are so invested in diesel that that is years away from an outright ban, by which time the world will be electric. I can see that a new diesel may be a less attractive buy than it was three years ago but an older Euro 5 like most of ours should be useful for a good while yet.

It's ok, I'm not disappointed in you or anything. Not much anyway. Just one of those things isn't it.

That Adblue was diesel’s jump-the-shark moment? A lashed-up chemical solution to a problem that makes diesel ultimately unsustainable. (See also DPFs, but they seem to be far less trouble than the fleeces supposed; they just need exercise.)
