S’funny, just booked my hols yesterday too. Back to Malaysia in July. Now need to find a cheap ticket for a side trip to the UK for a week. Probably not much more expensive than 4 tickets to Edinburgh though?!

I looked at the flights at the start (Monday) of the third week in January, I booked them on the Thursday by which time the price had jumped 600€ for the four of us and there were only about 20 seats left on the plane. Took a look today, 2 seats left on our flights.

We did northen Italy on 2014. Flew into Venice and out of Pisa with Lake Garda and Florence in the middle, including the Lamborghini museum and factory tour. Great trip.
Has anyone done the Orkneys recently? Thinking about a North Scotland trip at the end of June?

Bromptonaut and his handbag procurement exploits around the he-brides, it is 2024, is probably the closest you're going to get.
What are you thinking ? Flying in and out or doing the ferry experience from Aberdeen ?

Living in Manchester and driving regularly to Alloa, I am quite happy to drive up to the North Coast and get a local ferry.

I wasn't sure if the ferry from Scrabster was still running, a quick check shows Scrabster to Stromness though if you want to sail direct to Kirkwall then Aberdeen it is.

Even as a Scot I’d be the first to admit that it’d be a much nicer place if someone could arrange to turn the heating up a bit more often. 😉

We managed a few nice days in Iceland in 2019, so hopefully a couple of three days on Orkney win June will be OK.

Let me think now, Barbados or Scotland for my next holiday? Tough one that. 🤔

Some might say they wished the Hawaiian shirt wasn't really a thing.

Probably not much more expensive than 4 tickets to Edinburgh though?! Don't think I'd bother travelling that distance (UK-Antipodes-UK) for anything less than 3 weeks. Going for one week is my idea of insanity, you spend 4 days travelling, Shirley. Coincidentally we also booked a small holiday yesterday, a week at Easter in...drumroll...Scotland. A bit further up than our usual haunts of Galloway/Loch Lomond (ancestral family seat)/Fife - but not much. Just south of Oban on the coast. We shall, of course, be deploying the Civic for that journey, although we shall be one passenger lighter than usual as son is going to Thailand with his mates. Daughter is apoplectic with rage, but of course it's her GCSE year, and her time for exotic shenanigans will come very soon. A peaceful week's revising in the boondocks it'll have to be. Still chewing over what to do in the summer, could well be a continental drive down to Serbia and Bosnia. My preference of a villa in France is looking very, very expensive, and therefore probably a non-starter.

France in general or the one you want in particular? Not that it matters to me; the Yorkshire decision was made for me and I’d rather be the person who doesn’t like the decision than be with the person who doesn’t like it — if you see what I mean.

Easter is early this year. Depending on the weather of course, you might just be able to grab a day or two of skiing in Scotland around then if you want to mix it up a bit. Thinking back to my youth we often had our last trip of the season to Aviemore or Glenshee on Easter weekends.

Doesn’t sound ideal, I suppose you have tried talking about it?
