I'm not sure it's totally inaccurate even if those saying they are pro Palestine don't fully realise what those in the area that are anti-Israel want. What do we think a pro Palestine solution looks like? Because this according to so many (Hezbollah and Hamas included of course) is no Israel. Literally.
I hope EspIII and family are all doing okay and nothing to frightening at the moment. Stay safe.

Yes, WdB. And I think we should direct our angst towards the USA who seem happy to facilitate and underwrite the IDF offensive. We’re all being played like pawns.

Under normal circumstances the agreement between Israel and the USA for weapons (i.e. bombs, missiles, etc.) is that the large storage facilities in Israel that contain US ammunition (looked after the Israeli's) allows them to use what they need/want and they will later pay for replacements as appropriate. So Israel has legitimate pre-arranged access under long standing agreements.
Whether they are right to continue now - I don't think any of us believe that. But Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran and others want the state of Israel destroyed. Until allowing the Israeli's to keep their land is part of a peace deal I'm not sure what the solution is.
And a lot of the land that is now fertile in Israel was desert when given to the Israeli's and the Palestinians would not have wanted that land. After lots of investment etc. the land certainly is worth having.

It's a tough one to call. I cannot believe for one second Israel, with all its surveillance tech, did not know what the Palestinians were up to leading to 7th Oct last year. On the otherhand the fact their is a hard border between Gaza and Egypt suggests all is not rosy between neighbours in that region. When there is disruption everyone needs to move to Europe is odd, why can't they sort it locally suggests something wider at play.

The simple fact is the Arab nations do not want anything to do with the Palestinians. Just ak the Iraqis, Kuwaitis, Jordanians, the Lebanese and the Tunisians. All were hosts to Arafat and Fatah, and all kicked him and them out as they were sowing seeds of rebellion in those countries. They even sided with Saddam when he invaded Kuwait. Mohammed Bin Salman really hates them but cannot say it in public because his people are more well disposed to the Palestinians; because they do not understand what it mean for them if the Palestinians moved there.
About 95% of Israelis was a peaceful settlement but that is unacheivable with Hamas and Hizbollah and the Houthis being funded and armed by Iran. They literally want every Jew in the world, NOT JUST ISRAEL, dead. How do you negotiate with that? Now you know how I feel.. None of you living in the UK understand what it is like to be 'other'. I have felt it for 60 years.
Bear in mind that when Israel was established the Arab countries kicked their Jews out; so a significant number of Jews in Israel are not white or western but darker skinned and Arab in culture. So people who want the Jews to 'go back to Poland' are being twice racist.
If I offended any of you, tough, that is your problem not mine; because your support for Palestine actually harms the Jews and the Arabs. Alternatively support for Israel helps Arabs. Did you know that the Chief Justice of the Israeli Supreme Court is an Arab living in Jaffa? The more there are Arabs like him the better it is for the whole region.

Sorry Espada I'm not engaging with the substance of that post but I deeply resent the accusation that because I support the right of Palestinians to a homeland I want to see you and your kin dead.

Brompt, where do you envisage a Palestinian homeland being located out of interest? And for that matter where do the Palestinian's want their state to be located?

Thanks for your reply. Appreciated. I think Gaza without Hezbollah is what Israel wants.

Thanks for your reply. Appreciated. I think Gaza without Hezbollah is what Israel wants. That is undoubtedly true. Israel's actions before last October, never mind since, are what let Hezbollah in and have sustained it since. Like the British in Ireland, Kenya and numerous other places the forces of 'order' in Gaza have been the terrorists' best recruiter.

Dubai is not as steamy as i thought it might be. Yes, there are some things, like Dubai chocolate at 80€ for a family sized bar might be considered expensive though the ingredients push the price up.
Eating out is about 30% more than we pay at home, taxis are a lot cheaper. The journey from the airport, about 30 minutes, to the hotel, around 40€, I'd pay over 100€ from our local airport home over a similar distance/time.
It's very consumer driven, very westernised, cracking place for a winter break though if you want to swim in the sea and relax. Temperature in the low 30s. Not looking forward to returning to the cold, think the central heating might get a workout this weekend.

Where are you staying? I lived there 2006-9, although with the pace of development out there I might struggle to recognise it today!

We stayed near the Marina overlooking Jumeirah Beach, directly opposite the Bla Bla club. We got a free Human League concert last Friday night on our balcony. Saturday night was 90s night with Mel C, Peter Andre and S Club.
Peter Andre was staying in the same hotel.
My wife enjoyed the free shows, not my kind of music, I made my excuses and isolated in the sports bar adjoining the hotel and savoured my 15€ a pint beer.
