If snoozing on the lav becomes a pattern, it might be worth seeking some advice. Our older gentleman members may have some experience to share.

... I had to go to manual gearbox mode as it was too keen to run in third up the inclines at 5500rpm when 4th was fine... Yeah, I've heard they can start with that. Probably nothing to worry about yet... 😉

Everyone seems to drive Dacia Lodgys here. But there is a Renault 4 in the village, so someone is hanging on to tradition. There is also a lady in a Peugeot 607 which followed us into the hamlet on Saturday evening and I've since seen it parked in the tightest place imaginable and am yet to work out how she got it there. It is, remarkably, unscratched and indented. I am in awe. This is proper France.

Let us know when you see a CX. Extra points if it has one of those slatted covers on the rear window.
I saw a Renault 17 last year. It seemed tiny.

Cars do seem to survive longer in France. Even in the north. Which is odd because the climate isn't so different to the south of England. Must be a willingness to preserve rather than replace I suppose.
Still see a lot of Mk 1 Pandas for example in Italy even now. Different attitudes though, I have a number of Italian friends who have quite old cars, but in most cases they've had them from new and kept them a long time. Less interested in bells and whistles too it seems, with many of them running what we would call basic trim level models.
One pal, an uber trendy and successful fashionista, lives in an outstanding house in Rome, most of the time uses his Harley Davidson to get about, but keeps an old ( 1980s ) Panda in the garage for when it's raining or cold.

Mk1 Twingos are everywhere still. Loads on the péages on the way down, keeping up with all the traffic. There's a couple parked up in this 2 donkey town (the donkeys in question look happy and healthy and are in a field just below our house).
Lots of lycra gangs out on the local D roads today.
Oh yeah, just remembered, saw one base spec white Tipo saloon on the way down, and plenty of estates. The French know a bargain.

I had a loan of an old model Tipo hatchback in Italy years ago during a couple of weeks work trip. It was actually more than ok really, apart from a chronic odour of stale fags, and the AC didn't work. Factory hack that was a pool car and it was of course cheaper than hiring something. Same place had a couple of Unos that I occasionally drove too. Again, pretty much ok cars. 1.3 diesels maybe.

I loved it, but deep down knew it was a piece of shit made out of recycled party balloons and sardine tins. It's probably a notifiable disease, my FIAT affliction.

Forgot to say, there isn't a cement factory next door, there is a small vineyard, but on the other side of that is the village graveyard. Very pretty of course. Hoping we don't get to witness a mass burying of the Covid dead.
