People with caravans feel like they have to use them I suppose. Resultantly, my brother in law is constantly towing his to places even for long weekends. About ten years ago they had taken one to a campsite near Wrexham for a few days.
They invited my then 10 year old son to come with them to be with his similarly aged cousins. He went, but I'm not sure he has ever really forgiven us.

>> and the AC didn't work
Didn't work on the fairly new Tipo saloon I had as a hire car last Oct/Sept.

I expect some grockel/emmet shoved his chewing gum in the mechanism. Can't imagine a fine piece of engineering like a FIAT aircon system being dodge.

I'm more than old enough to remember when normal cars didn't have AC even as an option. When I lived and worked in Florence back in the early '80s, a lot of the locals bought wooden beaded seat covers to keep a bit of airflow around the body. I got one and it did make an appreciable difference to comfort in hot weather on the velour seats of my Cortina.

Careful! You’ll get T&E excited about the thing in the background. Is it a Buccaneer Laserquest with double-capacity chemical toilet, I wonder?🙉 Somebody's been doing some research! It wasn’t difficult. As with any toilet, there’s always something informative written high up on the wall. 😜

Mum had those beaded covers in her Daihatsu Fourtrak when she lived in the foothills of Rhonda. No not the one near Merthyr Tydfil. Go on the Dacia or Skoda configurator and you can still order a car without aircon. Unlike prestige makes such as FIAT where it is standard. Right, off to the boulangerie for my baguettes. Laters.

ISTR that aircon didn’t really start to become commonplace in mid-spec cars in UK/Europe until around 1998 or so. Along with that other big new feature: a CD player! And multiple airbags, not just the 2 upfront.
Just to make you feel less old Humph...

Yes. My Cosmic Blue Saab 9-3 was delivered to me on 1 August 1998 and came with all those things, which the 900 it replaced, in the lineup and on my drive, had not. The aircon had an on-off button; full climate control had to wait till the S60 in 2002.

The Golf I had in 1999 still came with a sunroof as standard but not aircon. I specified aircon and kept the sunroof. A year later I got a Passat which had climate as standard in Sport trim.

I do like a sunroof. Even when I have my bike racks on. It means I can keep an eye on them if I'm going under something potentially low and indeed I can reach up and stroke my bikes occasionally. Just love the feeling of light and air in the cabin. Men over a certain age can't have convertibles, ( obviously ) but you can get away with a sneaky sunroof. 😉

Old enough not to have suffered the mid-70's branding from vinyl seats if a towel had not been put on the seats of the parked car and you were wearing shorts, thinking summer of '76. Men of a certain age were sporting open necked shirts with sequin dragons, dodgy upper lip hair and trousers you could park a mini in the leg of.

No CXs yet, but there is a filthy beaten up Safrane in the village. And an abandoned looking original Tipo (white, natch) with a flat tyre.
