Curious how I hid a HOUSE key in the car? Well my house keys didn't have remote opening capabilities. But I could easily hide a spare BMW 330e key in the car too... the 330e SE had keyless go but not keyless entry.
To have a spare in the Mazda6 it would really need to be in a Faraday cage type pouch.... but you can still lock it but the remote capability temporarily gets disabled.
I wa surprised you could pretty much track the BMW in real-time yourself. Didn't try that until after it was collected. The collection driver used it all over the weekend and then claimed for fuel to get it to near Leeds... I'd left half a tank of petrol.

I read spare key and got distracted thinking about the situation where I drop my wife off, in her car, at one of her appointments, she goes disappears off with her handbag with the car key.
It would be handy not to have to drive home for the spare before I press the off button.

I had a “keyless” car for a couple of years. Just never got the point, and yes, I did once manage to drive off in it without the fob thing. I’d started the car outside the house, remembered that I’d left my wallet in the kitchen, went back inside to get the wallet and then stupidly left the fob in the kitchen! Got ten miles from home at the start of a 150 mile trip when it occurred to me what I’d done. Turned around. Got home, no one in of course and house locked (house keys were on the car fob in the kitchen) Eventually resolved by use of a ladder borrowed from a neighbour and breaking into my own house through an upstairs window. Day ruined, window broken. None of the above would’ve happened with a normal car key, or if I hadn’t been so careless of course.

I think keyless entry is pointless... just so happens I have it on the Mazda. Keyless start on the other hand is handy I found on the BMW.
If you get out of the Mazda6 with the engine running and the key in your pocket... it does beep a bit. And if you got in without the key the driver display will say the key is missing.

My experience with cars from the far East is they do like to make a noise because they can. Move the car out of the garage, get out to close the garage door (I know, I know, keep fit garage doors are so last century and using the garage to house a car, good grief !) and car let's out a high pitched screech telling me the key is not in the car. Yes, I know, because on this occasion the key is in my pocket and I'm closing the garage door.
The one that really annoys me is parking the car in the garage last thing at night. Transmission in park, ignition off. The car then starts boinging at me when I open the driver's door because the automatic headlights, which it is controlling, are still on for 30 seconds or so follow me home. Until I get out and lock the doors it's boinging away, like a cheap Bontempi keyboard, and damned annoying.
Fine balance with the key management, Humph. Keep vehicle and house keys separate and you're walking around like a prison guard. Probably not a good idea in your line of work having VKPL - Visible Keys in Pocket Line. Absolute no-no in Milan, dahlings! How do you manage with the Aygo ? Do you also have to take your main car keys with you so you can get back in the house later ?

Through check-in and security at Tel Aviv. Flight supposedly on time... The lines for El Al were huge, mainly because they have so many flights in big planes to the USA and every passenger has twice the luggage allowance as European Airlines (typical of American airlines). Our line was much smaller and we were through in no time.
The key for the Mini is with APCOA in Luton. Dreadful company, no communication at all. Not even a generic email to say Don't Panic...

No it’s all under control, we have a key board in the kitchen. All cars have two sets of keys. Each set has house keys attached so whatever car anyone is using, they also have house keys with them.
Not replacing keys on the board after use is dimly viewed.

Crikey. That's my system too, but our board is a lockable wall box, and the "second sets" are in a location know by and accessible to only myself, in order to discourage the non-return of keys (I know they'll think 'well, there's a second set if anyone needs that car, I'll put these ones back later', with the inevitable result that those keys will be misplaced). There are a couple of "loose" house keys to be used when going out without a vehicle, in order to mitigate the risk of losing car keys. Failure to return any key is accepted by all residents as one of the most serious crimes which can be committed.

Well done! Yes we also have two additional sets of house keys only on lanyards which also live on the board. These are for use when not using a car and can be looped around belts before being placed in pockets.
Non compliance with key return policies is not acceptable. 😉

Furthermore, all cars have lockable bike racks. Each car has a key to fit them in its glovebox, but in case of loss, all the locks on all the racks are matched so that any bike rack key can be used with any car. Losing a bike rack key is also unacceptable.

Keys really are the one thing about which one has to be an absolute Draconian. I listen in bewildered amazement at my sister's never ending tales of domestic disaster and chaos relating to such things as keys, and also wallets, because their family (of 5) have always refused to have any kind of proper management system and disciplinary procedures in place for fear of being thought nerdy, or something. Disorganisation as some kind of badge of coolness. Bleh.
I salute your indefatigability, Sir.
