I assume the fire brigade will identify the source of the fire somehow - but seeing how bad it was, knowing exactly which car started it... Might be tricky to pin point exactly which car though. Not a lot will be left of many cars in the vicinity of where it started.
The insurance company of the car (providing there is cover) will have a fairly hefty payout to make for cars let alone the car park!

Been a busy day....
So the itinerary for tomorrow is hair raisingly sketchy.
It involves navigating a very very and under staffed Tel Aviv airport for a flight supposedly at 11.30 to Larnaca arrival at 12.30.
Then it's a 16.50 departure to Rome arriving 19.10. If that works (!).. then we have two hours and 20 minutes to retrieve luggage and check in for the 21.30 easyJet to Gatwick arriving 23.35.
Of course the car rental offices all shut at 20.00. still deciding on tactics at Gatwick if this works and what news of Luton. The car should have been elsewhere than the multi storey car park as it was a Meet and Greet booking.
The lack of response by the car park operators (APCOA) before the fire was appalling so who knows when we will know when we can get the car.

I think I'd be booking a hotel at Gatwick, EIII. Then deal with getting to Luton in the morning.

Guardian rolling news reports that BA have suspended services to Tel Aviv on safety grounds. Today's flight, BA165 operated by an A350 turned round before landing. Currently FL400 over the Adriatic and seems to be returning to LHR. Assume possibility was on cards at departure and fuel load sufficient. Otherwise it will presumably land at Rome or some other point.

Hope the flight departs on time tomorrow - stay safe.
Like Alanovic, I think staying overnight near Gatwick is an only option.
EDIT: Thameslink appear to run services from Gatwick to Luton in the early hours... according to Google anyway. Maybe there's a way to do it but that would be a very long day.

Yes, treat yourselves to a hotel if you make it as far as Gatwick. In the scheme of things etc… Safe and timely travels!

We are insured with LV= who I rang just now. Now I know whay I pay a little more for car insurance to stay with them.
A lovely lady answered and her first words after I said "we parked our car at Luton Airport" were "we are here to help". And help she has. LV= has removed all excesses and claims records from the policy for this incident and are basically helping in any sensible way.
We agreed that I would ring her when we knew our flight from Rome was realistic and they would have a large taxi waiting for us to take my son and mother-in-law to north London and take us home to Manchester. Then they will deal with the car. No need for us to return to London to retrieve it; just tell them where it is and they will collect it (assuming it is not written off), carry out any repairs and deliver it to us. We can also rent a car when we get home for a week.
If we don't make it to Gatwick that night then I simply call them when I know what I am doing and they will arrange whatever I need. When I told her where I was, you could hear the gulp and the desire to make life that bit easier...
Phew,. One less stress to worry about.
Now just need to get on that plane!

That's good to hear Espada. Sounds like they are doing the right thing and providing a good service. Not that I've ever used them but I'm with LV for annual travel policy. Renewed a few weeks ago.
If they do what is promised they are making a stressful/difficult time a lot easier.

Just curious, but presumably you have to get a car key to them somehow? Or, don’t tell me, there’s an app for that? 😉
(I had to ask my son what an app was not all that long ago, and I was astonished to learn that I had some!)

I used to be able to unlock the BMW remotely, flash lights etc. Same was possible on the Skoda apart from I was not the owner so could not get remote unlock activated. ... I decided to keep a spare house key hidden in the depths of the 330e because I knew I could unlock it for me or someone else when away

Good to hear you have a plan EspIII.
LV were a decent company when I used to use them back when I had a UK registered car.
Curious how you could lock the key in the car Rob, presumably it was in a pouch so the car couldn't recognise it.
The app thing for locking and all the other functions came around 2017 when modems started appearing in cars. I like the idea of being able to check if the car is locked and unlock the car from my armchair when my daughter tells me she's left something in the car and I don't want to get the key, the downside is the manufacturer won't let me do that unless I feed them location data 24/7.
