Injectors are the first thing to go on these, apparently. Particularly high milers. Not that I want to worry you.

If you got it below book is it be worth looking for a 250 and swapping ? Similar consumption, insurance, running costs and you did like that engine more than the 220. OK, you will not have had it from new though an automatic gearbox and full main dealer service from an elderly sort of private motorist would surely limit your risk.

The 250 was dropped in about 2015, so it would mean buying an older one. Better, I’d think, having bought it, to keep it while it’s not costing money in repairs.

You've joined the ranks of car owners.... excellent.
No advice to offer other than find a good indy who knows Mercedes. The rear air suspension, as two of us know, can be dodgy but the money you save should outweigh all your unexpected costs.
Did you manage to avoid company car tax for period between lockdown and buying the car?

Not entirely, I was furloughed in April, unfurloughed ( is that a word ? ) in May but likely to be off again June/July ish.
And, I suppose, it's "welcome back" to ownership after an 11 year company car arrangement.

I was wondering what you'd do if the car was replaced as a company car. With BIK now based on WLTP figures most cars go up a lot. If it's a diesel and not RDE2 compliant there is then an additional 4% BIK charge. I'd have thought the equivalent of Humph's car is taxed at 37% now.

I'm not going to rush any decisions, and anyway, I don't have the new V5 doc yet, but I could, if the back of my envelope is to be trusted, chop the Merc in, and for not much more cash, get a nearly new, well specified Duster.
Bit small for work, but a step closer to my Reggie Perrin objective...

You'd get a good deal on a year-old Mondeo Vignale estate. Lots of kit and huge depreciation.
There's something about the Berlingo that reminds me of a 1940s Jowett Bradford. But people who have Berlingos seem to love them, notably Bromptonaut of this parish and Steve Cropley of Autocar.
Wouldn't you be better off with a company-owned PHEV such as a Passat GTE or Superb IV? Expenses taken care of and low BIK.....and room for the shoes.
