Certainly cold enough here, had to scrape ice off the windscreen this morning. Nothing unusual in that for January of course but it has been unseasonably warm of late.

It's been 16 degrees here over the holidays. Ridiculous. Bit cooler today but nothing special. Still I'm glad of the warmth to combat the gas bill rises a bit.

Not snowing yet but the frost overnight was weird.. It was a dry evening last night. Was out at the cinema and it was bone dry when we got home at 10:30pm. It must have had a very damp dew or rained and then froze because it was impossible to open the doors of three cars this morning. I managed to get into two cars by opening the boot lids and then slamming them shut which broke the frost on the other doors.

But if you think like that you will always be living in fear.

But if you think like that you will always be living in fear. If you don’t think like that, you have more faith in the trustworthiness and competence of Grant Shapps than seems warranted by his record to date.

Well looks like Israel is opening the border again after six weeks of Omicron closure. Same reason given as the UK (and France apparently).. so much Omicron in the country that a few vaccinated and most likely virus free people coming in can't make much difference to the figures. So Grant Shapps may well be right.

Novak Djokovic has made a bit of a fool of himself. Whatever the current situation with his vaccine status, his previous comments on the topic and the extremly well known views of the Australian government were always going to collide. He was always going to be scrutinised closely on his arrival and any minor discrepancy magnified.

If he spends the requisite time in quarantine and then returns a negative test then why not let him in? Is this really about Covid, or vaccine-compliance?
Either we’re all double- (soon triple-) vaxxed with nothing to fear, or we fess up and accept that the vaxx isn’t actually very effective and therefore we need lots of additional restrictions as well...
Getting hard to blame the unvaxxed in countries where over 90% of the population has had 2 or 3 shots and the unvaxxed can’t leave home without a Covid passport, yet case numbers are spiralling?
Anyway Novak is probably a pillock, but I can’t see how Australia can come out of this sorry saga with any credit.

Nobody is ever going to come out of anything well for as long as it is judged by the media and its lemmings.
The rules, such as they were, said that within certain parameters an exemption was available. Novak seemingly complied with those rules and was, according to the rules, rightfully awarded and exemption.
The media and its 50% lemmings were outraged and chaos ensued. Politicians panicked and tried to re -write history including their own previous statements.
Of course, if he is ejected / refused entry / whatever, the media and the other 50% of it's lemmings will be immediately outraged and chaos will ensue.
Tennis player does or does not play in a tournament? Does or does not get an exemption? Serbia does or does not have conniptions and knotted panties?
WGAF? Not me. Let him in or don't, just FFS get it off the front page because it truly does not matter.

I think Australia got it wrong granted an exemption but they did. The media and world then reacted. Novak's mistake was to let someone sort out the visa and it was done incorrectly thus giving the border control the ability to revoke that visa. And being as it's an election year the politicians are unlikely to back down.
He should have accepted he was not getting in and left ASAP. No winners. If the next major tennis tournament or the one after that insists on vaccines he's scuppered again.
Back to the real world and the impact of Covid - another country has vaccination for over 50s as mandatory and if you're not by mid February you are suspended from your job. This is news that matters to more of us than some arrogant tennis player.
