Yes. We mentioned Chile in another context. After my two visits, there was another a few weeks into the new year. I had changed jobs by then, so didn’t go, but four of my colleagues did. One ignored advice and flew economy class ‘to save the company money’ — and arrived bearing a gastric flu bug that put him and two of the others out of action for a week or more.
They were confined to their hotel rooms, receiving visits only from a local doctor, and perilously close to requiring hospital treatment for dehydration. Must have been scary as well as uncomfortable. I’m quite glad to have missed that trip.

A family I know well who have a very successful multi-generational business have a business travel policy. If the flights are no longer than the trip from Manchester to Tel Aviv, you go economy class. Any longer, it's business class for all. Seems to work. It works out at about five hours.

Last time I went to China, I “volunteered” to go economy to set a money saving example to my team.
Have to say it wasn’t pleasant. I’m a distinctly average 6’ 0” of equally average build and I felt cramped and uncomfortable on those 12 hour flights. Won’t rush to do that again if I’m due to do any actual work at the other end.
Must be utterly miserable for anyone with body dimensions larger than mine.
I’m more than ok with jumping in a budget airline or an economy seat for a short hop to Italy or Germany or whatever but on a long haul it really isn’t enjoyable.

On class of flight ticket then for me about 4 hours is the cut off. I can put up with most things for that long, but beyond that it gets painful.
Mostly though if I fly upper class then I can function as soon as I arrive. If not, then I usually lose 24 hours. It depends how much that matters.
On medical care in another country there are so many difficulties; different language, especially vocabulary, different processes, no NHS, different approach to care, different standards of care, different drug standards, names, habits, recommendations, dosages and so on and so forth.
You'll rarely be as comfortable as you are in your own country where you know what you are doing and can communicate fully.

Back to Covid...
Son #1 who tested positive with no symptoms last Monday morning, had a negative LFT last night but a positive one this morning. Has to stay in till Thursday at the earliest now.
Getting cabin fever. He was all set to come home for a few days of home cooked food and parental/sibling love tomorrow morning.

Welcome back Chilean I for one missed you here. They will miss you on the other site too I think. My upper limit for being on an aircraft is probably about 5 hours but we do only fly economy class within Europe. I've not been on an aircraft longer than that since 1999. And that particular year I broke the journey up to San Francisco via JFK on the way out and back so I could plan a route that included a trip to Maui. It also meant I did not have to go via Heathrow. But the 11+ hours non-stop from Heathrow to SFO and back in cattle class was horrendous. Probably a lot more tolerable in business class or better. Once my brother tried using Wizz Air to see what that was like apart from it being a lot lot cheaper. But it was terrible. This was SFO to Bristol via Iceland! The money saving was not worth it but then he could afford first class if he wanted. Feel sorry for your son Espada... but surely the 7 day release thing ought to also include a negative test on days 7 and 8 to release a bit earlier?

Yes Rob you're right, but now he has a positive day 7 test he needs negative days 8 and 9 to come out...So that makes Thursday I think.
In Israel, they tell you if you have Omicron and the isolation period for that is 14 days! with no early out if you test negative.

Israel as usual are probably handling this new variant better than us. Disappointing to have a +ve day 7 test result after a -ve day 6 for sure. Maybe he should have done best of three on day 7.... joking. He's doing the responsible thing.
How are you feeling now? Feeling better I hope... just remember the score for the game and realise it was worth it. Assume it was at the game you got it. Hopefully Newcastle have as similar result tonight. But not looking so good so far.

Rob - missed your message.
Yes, he is being responsible. Occasionally he is a good boy!
The results on both Monday night and last night were very interesting. Fascinating games and kept me interested after a long day doing nothing. My symptoms are mostly gone. Still very slightly 'wobbly' but that is probably due to a total lack of exercise, even walking. Otherwise all I want to do now is go for a walk.

A far less positive LFT last night, which is good as according to the rules I am allowed out of isolation tomorrow morning.
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year. See you the other side...

By far less positive do you mean negative?
Happy new year to all.

Yup now had two negatives in a row 24 hours apart. I was legally allowed out this morning anyway so went for a walk. Feeling rather wobbly still but its getting easier.

Sounds like you have suffered a bit albeit relatively mild - glad you've got better.

Back in the office today, to be met by empty desks of colleagues who are positive for Covid. It's nice and quiet! Managed a decent ramble yesterday, up Holcombe Hill to the Peel Tower. Route The first part of the walk is up a steep hillside with a further scramble later on. I was well out of breath at the top of the first climb and not far off similar for the second with me feeing a little light headed. Possibly overdid it, but once we were on the top it was a good yomp south to the tower and then down to the car it went fine although the wind coming from the west was vicious. But given I had spent the best part of two weeks in bed I thought I did OK.
