What's going on here, then? Pic taken from vehicle ad. Is there some kind of subscription to use the built-in satnav, I wonder?

My "distance" car has done 24k miles in the last 5 years, this Superb is on 7k miles so add that plus a bit for Covid downtime and it's not going to need that service based on mileage for 5 years with me anyway. Unfortunately, if you want to keep the manufacturer's warranty servicing doesn't work like that, it's time OR distance based. If the service is due at three years or 40,000 miles and your car has only done 2 miles it's still due.

When I was a teenager, I was in the back of my dad’s Volvo 240 saloon on long trips with the luggage that wouldn’t fit in the boot and three dogs. Dogs are crap at respecting personal space. 😬

Sounds like your wife is more expensive than mine. Mine will happily sit in the back of the Focus estate and let 6'1", still growing, mini-me sit in the front, especially if the alternative is chucking a five figure sum at a solution.
You know as soon as you buy a bigger car Al jnr will be off to Australia for a five years. Life has a habit of that.

Well if we're going 4 Yorkshiremen, we used to drive to Scotland from Berkshire in the summer in a Reliant Regal with 4 people, a Labrador/Boxer crossbreed and our bags.
I'm not sure that's relevant to current deliberations, however.

When I had a Superb it had the next model of head unit up from that and the map was on an SD card in the two slot reader/DVD drive in the glovebox. I used the other slot for MP3s on an SD-Card. So I wonder if it just doesn't have the SD-Card with the maps inserted?? It will have Android Auto and Apple CarPlay too.

I've got to have some pleasures in life.

Pretty much any of those would tick my boxes. Well, maybe not the Vauxhall…🤮
…and, re that Mondeo estate mentioned earlier at £26k, that’s too much even if it is a Withnail model.
…and the Skoda saloon, just no, behave yourself now. 😉

Car nerd trivia alert…
Tif Needell drives a Jag XF estate as his personal car. Or Tiffany Dell if you prefer.

Funny thing cars. Never thought I'd see the day where a 44 year old FIAT 131 would be worth five times a 34 year old Audi 100 www.pistonheads.com/Edit: £26k did look a bit optimistic but, as they say, find another. It looks like quite a few have caught on to the TC models given the low volume available. Those who know, know and will be hanging on to them.

Did he once drive with Tim O'Glock? I'll get my coat - but F1 did have Timo as a Tim in at least one race.

Opinions on the Superb 1.5 TSI please, with regards to its power output/torque, and therefore likelihood to provide a better long distance/long motorway incline experience compared to the Civic. Civic = 140bhp, 128 torques. Superb 1.5 TSI = 148bhp, 184 torques. Are those sufficiently more torques to mean fewer downshifts and periods spent being deafened at higher revs? Of course, sound insulation differences will come in to it too, and that's been one of the only complaints I've had about the Civic - really bad road noise on anything other than perfect surfaces. I'm given to understand all Superbs are whisper quiet, which is what I'm after really. But can that be true with a smallish petrol engine climbing mountains in France?
Obviously I need a test drive, but what does the panel think? Big enough improvement to justify the change, or should I seek a version which uses the black pump?

If you’re looking for a car better suited to your annual holiday runs, then a diesel would still be my favourite for that job. However, if you’re looking for one that is best suited to the other 50 weeks of your year then the petrol is probably the better option. Like I’ve said before, we took our smaller, petrol, manual to the south of France last year because we had to. It was totally fine, it wasn’t as good at it as the bigger automatic diesel, but it was no bother, still good fun and we still had an excellent holiday. I’d say just buy what you like driving the most if it’s a treat to yourself. They all work as shifters of people and stuff.
