Further to the above, as I get older I'm increasingly confident that there are certain things I shall never do again. ( admittedly having tried them all at some time )
There is a much longer list of course but some random examples are...
Renaults MacDonalds Cheap shoes Own brand Tonic

I'll bite.
My most recent pair of Loakes have been a disappointment both quality and fit. Dr Martens have been better in all respects if not as smart.
Renaults are fine although not for me on a permanent basis. But decent cars these days.
McD and own brand tonic. I agree. Not a big gin drinker but I know quality or not when I drink it. And who eats at chain restaurants?
In the meantime, our seats on easyJet are the emergency exit row and we didn't pay. Just chose not to pay for seats and we were allocated these. Happy Days...

Always try to avoid turning right when boarding an aircraft. It rarely ends well if you do. ...especially if you’re a pilot.

My most recent pair of Loakes have been a disappointment both quality and fit. Fit is personal, if course, but it pays to know your lasts. Capital, Claridge and 026 work for me, but I took a punt on some suede 771Rs in a sale and they fit beautifully, so I can add the 3625 last to my ‘safe’ list.

...Some do. The others are there to remind you that you didn't pay for one. Well...not quite. I paid £1500 for my SAAB, and that had the best seats I've ever had the pleasure of.

Your Saab was an aircraft? Well that's gone right over my head. Aren't all SAABs aircraft?

Might explain how it cost you so much to run.

The inch of height I've lost recently must have been transferred to my feet, as I no longer fit my usual shoe size, which I've taken for over 30 odd years, and I now need a size bigger. I thought it was ears which grew as you aged, not feet.

Ah - I know nothing about lasts. How do you know which last is in which shoe? Well, they should have taken the lasts out by the time you see the shoes, but Loake names the last on each style’s product page, like this one on Capital: www.loake.co.uk/product/strand-burgundy/I’ve found that the styles that fit me well are almost straight along the inner edge when viewed in plan, without a pronounced outward curve towards the big toe, so that’s what I look for before ordering anything new. The inch of height I've lost recently must have been transferred to my feet ... I now need a size bigger. A full inch would be three full sizes, I think, but I’d have to check my barleycorns to be sure. Don’t fret, though. Just learn to smile knowingly when asked (as you will be) if you’re all in proportion with your bigger feet. “No, fortunately, or I’d need a size 19.” 😋

THanks
My problem is that I wear orthotics so my foot sits higher in the shoe and my little toe wears a hole in the side leather from the inside.... Probably need a wider fitting to accommodate it...

I’m sure it can be done, especially if you’re not up against one extreme of the size range, as I am. May be worth a visit to one of the Loake boutiques — there’s one n Birmingham, so I expect Manchester has one too — and explaining your situation to an obliging elf. I doubt you’re that unusual and expect they’ll be able to offer a solution.
Or you can talk to one of the Bigger Shoe sales people outside the station. *

...... one of the Loake boutiques — there’s one in Birmingham.......... ...the son of one of my oldest friends works there. (Though TBH, I thought it was Solihull, but I know he was made redundant as a pastry chef at JL in Solihull, when they started buying-in rather than making). Tells me he loves working for Loakes.
