I had a European Corolla derivative (Verso) for four years and came to detest it. A generally well-built machine but seemingly designed with no thought to what would make humans enjoy using it.

How did you end up with one of those - nobody deserves that! :-)

But there’s not much joy to be had in driving any family-oriented people carrier or SUV though is there?!

I love driving anything pretty much. Even my old Ford Galaxy. Above all else I love cars for the freedom they give me.

'nuff said. I thought Endurance came from Japan 🤓 The Verso was also an attempt to placate the young masters, in that it had the internal width to take them and a friend when all three required boosters, while not being as excessively bulky as a Ford S-max. Our mistake was not to take it on a long test drive; it was excellent for half an hour, but after half a day the incessant jiggling and hard seats got wearing. Not a cruiser in the Mercedes style, certainly.

The S-Max was simply the best ever of MPVs. Great space, good ride, fantastic handling and the family liked it too. Nothing else was ever as good; the most disappointing was the Mitsubishi Grandis - just dull dull dull, oh and dull. Terrible steering, jiggly ride, no ooomph, and awkward seats to fiddle with to reach the back row...

[I thought Endurance came from Japan 🤓 The first and second generation "*Corolla* Verso" were designed in Japan. The third generation of the same was a European rehash. The next "Verso" which had little to do with the then Corolla was also European based, but all of them carry the original Japanese DNA. 🤔

Ours (2008) was described as ‘designed in Germany’. Engine from North Wales. Assembled in Turkey. The engine was the only bit that gave us any trouble.
Yes, the S-Max was excellent, but (at the time) seemed too big and expensive for our purposes. We still should probably have bought one all the same.
The Grandis was handsome and well built, but that’s about where the good ended. Possibly the worst diesel installation I’ve ever experienced.

In that case, probably 3rd gen, actually designed in France (and judging by its similarity with the 2nd gen, by a Monsieur Yamamoto, with a rarge amount of Japanese DNA)

...save your money, you'll soon need it to fund their tuition fees, not their rear-seat comfort. (The alternative point of view, of course, is that you soon won't have any spare money for 5 or so years, so if you have now, spend it!) A-levels day. He made his grades - with something to spare. Needed one A*, got three - and managed to seem disappointed with a mere A in Fiendish Further Maths. Berlingo it is, then.

With a second one following up, a Piaggio might be more appropriate... 🤭

Congrats! Clever lad.... You must be proud I prefer to say I’m delighted, because he deserves the credit. Yes, he worked hard but what impressed me was how well he organized himself in the weeks before exams. Yes, there was some tension during the exam season itself — and he came home fuming after the notoriously difficult maths paper — but he generally knew he was ready, and he was. A Piaggio might be handy for the pizza round I’m going to need.
