Just following on from T&E's tales from the hard shoulder ( buried in the Brexit thread, but I suppose, in fairness, he was trying to exit Britain at the time )
I do like a ferry, much prefer them to aeroplanes if available. I use the Holyhead-Dublin route a fair bit, sometimes the Cairnryan-Belfast crossing and of course the Dover-Calais run.
By and large it's just so much more civilised than an airport, you don't usually have to get undressed before you get on board, they don't get all bent out of shape if you're early or late and ( if you've got the right sort of ticket ) just let you get on the next available one. On board food is generally ok with proper knives and forks, and you get to use your own car rather than some shonky renter.
Theres no baggage restrictions and the roads in France and Ireland are a pleasure to use after the privations of the U.K. Infrastructure. I always prefer to travel that way if time allows.
In fact, this next week I'll be in Ireland and when I return, after a few days I'll be driving to Milan. It's quite a run, but I don't mind crossing the odd Alp on a nice day with my sunroof open and some pleasing music to accompany the views.
I'm using the tunnel for the Italy trip, really only to save a bit of time, I'd rather be on a ferry in truth, but I'll give it a go. Haven't used it for a while now. Doesn't feel natural somehow, all that water on top of you.

All great, unless you suffer from sea sickness. Which I do. And the wife and children.
Seeing as how you can't guarantee a smooth crossing, it's the tunnel for me, although we got away with it on the Newhaven-Dieppe ferry in May. Water was like a mirror and we had a great trip. Rough seas in and out would have put a massive kink in the weekend away.

Never bothered me, I'm the guy tucking into a fried breakfast while others are hanging over the side losing theirs ! The hovercrafts used to be properly bouncy but I sort of enjoyed that in an odd kind of way.

Don't mind a good bridge either. The Danes are good at those.

But unless you go to Tacoma, bridges don't bounce.

Is it possible to drive from the UK to Israel? I suppose it must be. Do you know anyone who has done it Espada? Wonder what the best route would be...

There you go, might need to stop for petrol a couple of times I suppose.

Really? I thought you had one of them there economic Mercedes. Surely what you save in carrying all that weight of the extra cylinders must help you?
You should probably try and take a bit of weight out of the wheels as well.
More seriously, what a really great drive that would be. I think I might stick that on my bucket list. I barely know Israel so that's an incentive.

Well, I was pleased to see that you decided to start from Edinburgh and didn't make the rookie error of choosing the A702 ! The '701 is much more fun and quicker. Would have knocked a good 10 minutes off the journey, might not have needed to stop after all...

Try it in a Nissan Leaf - that's a challenge.
But would you drive via Syria? Google certainly would route you that way, e.g. Almotahalik Aljanobi/Southern Bypass.
Talking of Google... I used Android Auto on the way home this afternoon because I knew there were holdups and wanted up to date options.... The red and amber holdups you could see on the map were basically 100% accurate. As was the estimated arrival time. The journey with no traffic or accidents would be about 45 minutes. It took 1 hour 25 minutes.

Slight problem with Otto's route to Israel...It goes through Syria.
Otherwise perfect.
Actually, I'd love to do it. Perhaps the best way it to get to Piraeus and then get a ferry to Cyprus and then the car needs to go by ship as cargo to Haifa. The other issue is no RHD cars permitted.
